Federal judge rules Trump DHS plan for 50% FEMA staffing cuts was unlawful
A federal judge has ruled that a plan by the Trump administration to slash staffing at the federal agency tasked with responding to disasters by 50% was unlawful.
The opinion issued late Friday marked a victory for labor groups who had sued the agency. The labor organization had argued that plans by the Department of Homeland Security, which was then led by Secretary Kristi Noem, violated congressional protections that were designed to safeguard the independence of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The issue of the FEMA staffing was part of a much larger lawsuit filed by the American Federation of Government Employees and other labor groups, pushing back on efforts by the Trump administration to slash the federal workforce.

Great!
Now what? I'm guessing nothing will change.
Now to hire all those folks back! I'm sure they didn't go to other private jobs that paid more.
Oh, and I'm also confident they will return to work knowing this administration learned their lesson and won't try to fire them all using a slightly different reasoning in the near future.
Cool, so Republicans get to break shit and then told later it was doubleplus unlegal along with some fingerwagging, but they are not made to rub their noses in their own shit and told they must clean up their own goddamnned mess?
I bet anything we get more Murc's Law Media bullshit when the Democrats are not able to snap their fingers and fix it overnight, and tell voters they are justified in their low-info response (sitting out, voting R or voting third party).
I kind of suspect that what might happen is that it might open the federal government to a lawsuit, in which case the taxpayer foots the bill for any damages, and it is likely the Democrats will be the ones raising taxes and taking the political flak.
I suspect that the same thing may happen with tariffs. The Trump administration is going to effectively run a deficit related to tariffs, because the government is on the hook to pay back to importers at least a large part of the tariffs it exacted. The country is going to have to pay for that, whether via reduced services or increased taxation. Trump is looking to stall on that as long as he can. If he can stall until the next administration, it's their problem.
It's a messaging problem, all right.
Yeah, I keep seeing them making claims about how we are making so much money (on taxes paid by people buying shit being imported, AKA, tariffs) like we've never seen, and unless the clip is edited, I see no push-back on it. Pretty sure I saw recent claim of both "JD" and tiny-d donnie making that claim.
And there are obviously still people that believe them on this.
Good 1984 reference.
Oopsie daisy guess everything will just keep getting worse and worse
And nothing will happen because of this. Again.
Oopsie-diddly, what’re you gonna do now
