I had a Palm Pixi and loved it. Palm WebOS was an amazing OS that gave the industry a lot of what are considered standard features of phones today. You could also root it by just going into the settings and turning on developer mode.
Palm’s acquisition by HP destroyed all of that. And to make matters worse, they sold WebOS to LG who now uses it to spy on people through their TVs.
Palm Pre 2 was the last great phone that lived. It was right after the HP acquisition and before the HP bullshit. I still have it. I wish it could handle modern networks.
The Model F and M were developed with the direct collaboration of professional typists, and were awarded the most comfortable typing experience. They are my dream board, and I want them.
I bought a Fairphone 3 for the reparability but the damn thing just won't break! I don't think I've abused any phone as much as the FP but it just keeps chugging along without so much as a tear in the screen.

I don't know where and I don't remember when but I've seen some investigation that phones with detachable covers and batteries survive falls better because those moving parts disperse the energy of the fall better, instead of all the shock going into the next stress point - the screen or the glass on the back
I got a Fairphone 4, thing's survived many a fall. It's a Shame that fairphone doesn't ship spare parts to the US, makes sourcing those parts much harder.

From what I have read, the Nokia leadership needed a shake up when Elop was appointed CEO, I absolutely believe that a shake up was needed, but Elop was absolutely the wrong guy to deliver it.
A dream phone of mine would be the Nokia N950, it was a devkit for the Nokia N9, I played around with Meego for a bit, and it was brilliant, with an added keyboard it would have been awesome.

Microsoft messed up badly in Europe by completely and utterly ignoring the continent. Nokia managed to gain a larger marketshare than Apple in both Italy and France at the time. With meaningful marketshares in the rest of Europe.
Nokia was doing alright in several Asian countries Microsoft ignored as well.
After the take over, Microsoft kept all their resources forced on the US market, failed and in turn lost the European and Asian markets.
Unless you're willing to spend serious €€€, forget the N950.
But both the N900 and the N9 can be had for cheap on the used market (at least here in Finland lol) and are excellent examples for a true Linux phone that actually works.

Custom roms like Lineage OS offer a much better experience. It would be cool if Android was a bit more open or there was an actual alternative but for now AOSP based systems are still much better

Then there's the whole Play Integrity thing messing with your mobile payments, biometrics in certain apps, or complete refusal to work (funniest/most stupid example being the McDonalds app).
Then there's the whole thing of being unable to relock your bootloader for added security because damn near no one supports Android Verified Boot. Relocking means bricking the device.
I should make a bigger effort to write down the things I'd miss from Android if I left...
I do love my ROMs though. Lineage can be a bit lacking in features and customization for my liking. My favorites are EvoX and crDroid, they're good at basically everything for a "heavy" ROM. PixelExperience was the bomb while it was going. RIP 🫡

Sadly, Model F's are out of my price range, for now, but you can find model M's with adapters for less than 200.
