to be fair, most americans are barely aware that the rest of the world exists. lol

I hope China's considering the same for the US. Mutually assured AI destruction.

Are we both thinking about the same military? The one which is currently losing a war with Iran for the third time this year?

Yeah, let them try to bomb Chinese data centers honestly. Would probably be pretty funny (if no nukes are involved).

i double dare you. go and bomb china right now, hit civilians on the first day again.

If Skynet knows that we're considering military strikes on Chinese data centers, won't they just preemptively strike us?

China has just brute-forced their AI development with lesser chips.

If it comes to the point US policymakers are contemplating military options, why not instead just allocate the budget to a bunch of homelab YouTubers and see what happens.

I want to see Jeff Geerling make a 100,000 node Raspberry Pi cluster that achieves AGI.

You won't get to AGI by pumping more money into LLMs or hardware to run LLMs, it's just not going to get you there.

To achieve true AGI there needs to be years (more likely decades) of research by a diverse variety of teams, but

  1. Capitalism doesn't think in terms of decades, it needs the big shiny toy next quarter or else the bubble pops
  2. Research requires higher education and academia, and that's woke
  3. Diversity is banned

So, what you will get is overinvestment in LLMs and threats of military action to prevent competition. Good luck world!
