A Kangaroo that Lives in Trees

Lumholtz tree kangaroo at Mt Hypipamee. This guy was 2 m from the crater lookout late at night. I took a few pics and he climbed down the side of the tree opposite me and ran off. Using a thermal viewer he hopped away like a typical wallaby.

That treegaroo looks more like a lemur.
Treegaroo is twice a big, a marsupial, and looks much more muscular.
The Indri is the largest living lemur and even that one is only the size of the smaller female Lumholtz treegaroo, which is the smallest of the tree roos.

Now some folk'll tell ya the tail on most creatures is just filler, no substance if it isn't prehensile. But I'll tell ya, pal, that there is a vital piece of kit. Living up in the trees a guy learns a thing or two about balance. A real aerialist wouldn't be caught dead without it! Behold, nature's solution it took man ages to adopt.
But while the man gains his adjusted equilibrium, he also loses his hands for any other purposes - he's become bound to his balancer. Our kangaroo has both his upper appendages free for eating, scratching, or whatever else he's wont to do, all while looking stylish and graceful in a way off limits to humankind.
