I see some friends manage to have a life outside of parenting. But I always hear them about how special that weekend is for them, or how happy they are to be able to get a day away from their kid(s). He does X, and later she does Y, and that's how they both get to do a thing. Assuming it all goes well, of course. There are plenty of cancellations when the kid is sick, or the sitter cancelled.

Meanwhile, my partner and I just get to do their rare and special thing whenever we feel like it. We don't have to arrange or schedule or split our activities. A weekend away together isn't a rare event, we just go and do it.

It feels like we're just SO rich compared to them. And I don't mean in money, but in time and freedom and ability to enjoy ourselves.

THATS THE THING I KEEP TELLING PEOPLE.

The 40 hour work week is archaic and barbaric and it prevents you from being a parent who actually enjoys parenting because. you dont have enough time to decompress from parenting by 'not-parenting'

The truth is that you ARE rich in time. You may not know ot but its true. Think about it: Those husbands and wives or partners who are parrents come home after busting their asses from a 40-48 or more (who knows how much overitme they had to work) hour workweek...and then....they gotta take care of their kids on the weekend and when they come home on thr weekdays. They hardly have time for each other and for themselves. Wasnt there a study posted here a couple weeks ago that showed the 8 years after a relationship producrd a baby that is when they were least appy? Of course they were least happy at that time. They were slowly growing apart from each other, and their kids, and even from themselves cause of their vampiric job

The 40 hour work week was adopted during a time when one income was enough tl support a family so it was typically one partner that would stay home and fix and clean the house and raise the children and help them weith homework.... We dont live in such times anymore....

Even our acceptance of the 40 hour work week in my opinion was completely wrong . The '40 hour work week' doesnt include meal prep time, commute time, other bullshit we gotta take care of cause of work like certificate reapplications, learning new skills related to the job, etc....

Nowadays humans have the technologies and ability to keep society running while working faaaar less time. And we should be. Hasnt anyone here read those stupid stories of people finding new ways to waste time at their vampiric 40 hour work week job? THIS is by design. To keep you shut in a building full of telephone and office talk gossip cacophony, keep you unimaginative , keep you tired, and keep you disconnected from your self and your loved ones and even your coworkers.

People know that we need to change this BUT as usual they wont do anything about this until things becorm apocalytically bad..... so CHEERS to the apocalypse everyone 🫡🥳

I've never felt better since my son was born. He's the funniest little shit ever and we go on adventures around town all the time. A lot of people (especially on social media) tend to bitch and moan about parenthood, but I think that reflect more on themselves (and their toxic social spaces) than on parenthood.

The individual's experience means very little outside the individual.

Not really. These antinatalism "communities" are rife with bots and bad actors.

This is not an antinatalism community. Nor is it "propaganda" of any sort. We're not telling you what to do or not do.
