tic...tic...tic...

Ya hear that, Donny?

tic...tic...tic...

He's not a well man and it's coming soon, my brothers and sisters!

dammit.

if it were a fair world, Raul Julia would have gotten to keep his powers while filming street fighter instead of dying and we would have a real god for president instead of this bloated sack of shit.

Ever since space tourism, capitalism has corrupted space. So, yeah, I guess the afterlife is all that's left (assuming plenary indulgences were bullshit).

I don't want him to die. I want him to be sent to jaill and see himself as a failure. I want him to be sued out of his fortune. I want him to see his offsprings are consider a joke.

I want him to suffer.

Then he can die.

I agree wholeheartedly, but I'm a realist, a pragmatist, and I've already accepted that meaningful consequences for Trump are simply not gonna happen outside of another massive secret service screw-up. He will, unfortunately and almost certainly, either die in office of natural causes or so soon after leaving it (whether he leaves it as scheduled remains to be seen) that actual consequences will never materialize for him.

I am, however, slightly more hopeful that his administration, full of younger men with ambitions of their own, that they end up in tiny, grey, concrete rooms for the rest of their natural lives for committing treason, at some point. Only slightly, though.

Democrats: Ha! Just you wait! We're so ready to "look to the future, not the past" and let them get away with everything like we always do!

26

Except this time they won't have to talk just their own citizens into that idea. A lot of countries are pissed at the US, and they won't forget it anytime soon.

Tariffs, wars, insults and threats of invasion, those things will have to be addressed before the relationship can be mended.

19

This. The US of magastan are screwing over the whole world and not many are willing to keep going with this. Hell, even Italy's Meloni, a fascist fuck that idolized the orange pedohitler, is starting to say that dealing with it is harder than she thought.

When the orange fuck finally croaks, there will be a worldwide party and many of the assholes in that administration will realize that if they ever leave the power, they will face several consequences because the world will demand them if the US wants to be considered relevant again.

I'm still legitimately surprised Biden didn't pardon Trump to "Let the nation heal", though I guess slow walking his prosecution was his quiet verison of that

8

However much I hate it, he followed the "right" way of handling the DOJ in that he didn't request anything or interfere with anything. We don't want the president having direct control over the DOJ in that way. What he did fuck up with though was picking Merrick Garland, the biggest fucking coward this country has ever seen. He didn't want to be seen as "being political" so he dragged his ass on starting the investigation until it was too late and Trump could play the delay delay delay game :/

6

When you have a president that interferes with the DoJ, it looks exactly like what Trump is doing right now.

An independent DoJ is the sole reason why his first term was not full of retaliatory prosecutions. But he learned what he needed to do to rig it, and then did so. And now we have what we have. Is that really what you want out of the US going forward?

I do NOT want a DoJ that a president interferes with, period. If it's only "justice" for some, it's NOT justice.

The definition of treason would need to be redefined unfortunately. I agree but, due to these same issues they deliberately defined what treason is in the constitution and it requires an act of war or assisting/aiding a known enemy to the country. It's defined as an "only" which prevents it from being expanded.

This was intentional as they didn't want treason to be used like how it did with Britain where they would use treason as a reason to silence dissidents, but it causes anything that uses treason as a crime to have a really high bar that is unlikely to ever actually be met. There's still argument that trump hasen't committed treason, and that's with his direct ties and friendships with russia.

Thankfully (or maybe unfortunately is a better word for it), they've done a lot more illegal things than treason.

I think democrats have more than enough things to prosecute them on if they want to. Real question is if democratic LEADERSHIP wants that.

4

All depends if they are going to still sit on the hypothetical moral throne again. Thats why nothing gets done with the party, they go off a "well that happened but we can't stoop to their level" style policy, so with every step forward its 15 steps back.

Personally I hope they do hard focus it but, I also hope it doesn't become the running headline for their next cycle they get in, as they need to fix the fundamental issues with the system that allowed this first since a trial like that prosecution will easily last more than the length of a single term.

2

Absolutely agree, but he got elected... twice. None of that is happening until those (or a good portion those) who voted for him wake the fuck up.

Same, I want America to learn from this and make sure it doesn't happen again. Dying serves nothing.

2

america will learn by having two beloved old people die... what exactly? sometimes death is a dignity.

1
lemmy.world

The words "America" and "learning" are basically antithetical at this point.

Nothing will be learned from all this. They'll elect some new republican monster sometime in the 2030s if not earlier.

5

America will learn from this just like how all the school shootings made them rethink their gun laws, you know like how Covid made them rethink having healthcare be privatized.

Which is to say not at all.

I'm American in a purple state, send help.

4

Unfortunately there's about as much chance of that happening as Hillary going to jail like Trump promised.

1

I can think of no higher honor than enabling a rule-of-three that would please 90% of the world.

7

Death ain't very good at the crane game right now.

(I'd love to eat my words though, wink wink)

The bright orange fuck probably put a curse on everyone else to die before him.

4

O.O my day has been ruined, thank you sir. I had no idea and I had a major crush on her 20 years ago. She's a year older than me. What the absolute hell

1

Honestly, that orange thing is a mentally damaged human that would need psychiatric help. That one dying or not dying won't make a difference except for fueling the attention-grabbing news cycle for another round, until a new "emperor without clothes" is appointed by the billionaires.

sh.itjust.works

I beg to differ, mostly because I can almost garuntee a power struggle. None of those within or fuck even without the administration are set up as successors to the cult of personality. If Trump died tomorrow I would give it a month max before we see Vance trying to purge the cabinet and large sections of Maga going dorment. Especially with rising prices and AI data center backlash, it's entirely possible the current Maga coalition fractures as they position themselves as anti-AI to try to coalesce power and since nobody cares for Vance nobody would give a damn about him being thrown under the bus.

6
sh.itjust.works

Can't make any garuntees but that tends to be how cults of personality disintegrate, it happened with the Soviets, Germany, and even Reagan to a degree. The question comes down to specifics and whether or not the power vacuum causes infighting. The only real group I'm somewhat certain about are those who are only Maga because of Trump and only because of Trump and were otherwise apolitical before Trump. That particular sub group is basically only in it for Trump and is why the Republicans have been suffering in the mid terms since 2018 give or take.

Honestly I suspect the post 2012 Republican election autopsy still holds true, it's just that Trump fucked up the variables.

3

garuntees

not trying to be a dick, but you've spelled it twice like that now - it's "guarantee". Yes, I hate the English language too; though in our defense it's a word we stole from the French. And I'll never turn down an opportunity to blame the French, so neither should you.

I feel it has become less of a personality cult and more of a kabal of powerful people keeping each other in power. I don't see them giving up their ambitions due to some demented old man croaking. Or due to election results, for that matter :(

2

That's actually exactly how the upper workings of cults of personality tend to work. You get a crop of lieutenants or whatever you want to call them who rise up and either expand their power or gain power via the leader, often times solidifying their own sub group under the leader. They can't do anything against the leader since the others would rip them apart and they can't go after the others without the leaders permission for basically the same reason. Once the leader is removed for one reason or another they tend to go after each other to obtain the leaders power and to further expand their own.

Upside to the current powerful dipshits is that they are borderline braindead and basically all their powers are questionable at best for one reason or another. Within the administration for example Kegsbreath they are broadly disliked and frankly too stupid to maintain anything long term. Without it's basically a house of cards held up by stocks and economic bubbles, if anything goes wrong faster enough they both will collapse.

And here's the thing, there are so many fucking landmines sitting in the trail the US is going down that it's not a matter of if but when something goes wrong and shatters their power. Something as simply as a botched natural disaster response could easily spiral into states severing communications with the feds, arguably it's already started in lesser forms with states denying information to the feds. Hell the ongoing oil crises could in theory shitcan interstate trade and cave in the economy outright, let alone the stupid trade wars.

My point is long term and even short term depending on circumstances is basically a garunteed pyrrhic victory. They are clunching sand with a mangled hand.
