Context: When Emperor Hirohito kicked the bucket in 1989, a handful of old Japanese WW2 vets took the whole 'serve the emperor' thing to the extreme. A few elderly guys actually hanged themselves, leaving notes like 'I will serve you in the next life.' One even did proper seppuku. Wild loyalty, but tragic.
