Terranigma announced for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PS4, Switch, and PC

Clear River Games, in cooperation with Square Enix, has announced Terranigma, a revival of the 1995 action RPG, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2…

Didn't think this would ever happen, but one of my favorite childhood games is coming back to modern consoles, and for the first time released in America.

Judging from the trailer, it seems to be a straight port with only the soundtrack touched up and some artwork extras. Which is a bit disappointing, as much as it's a genuinely great game, it had flaws even back then and the textures don't really hold up that well. I was hoping for more incentive not to simply emulate it.

Yay? Why cant they bring in the whole Tenchi Souzou series at the same time to complete the trilogy?

  • Illusion of Gaia
  • Terranigma

Do a nice retranslation... no censorship, proper story.

Hmm...

I got so excited, thinking it was a full remake! But I guess a port is also a welcome addition. Though it would have to have some QoL and othe goodies included in other to make it worthwhile vs just playing it any other way you can.

Terranigma is perhaps my fav game out of all the snes library, and perhaps even across all consoles. So anything regarding it is welcome, but considering how some recent ports have been nothing more than glorified emulators-in-a-box, I think it's best to keep the hype in check.

Very nice that this game is coming back in some capacity but I was really hoping for some kind of remake or real remaster. From what I can tell this is the same game packaged and running on an emulator.

under-rated classic. Thinking the bare bones nature of the port is going to hurt it a lot though.

If it doesn't have a good level of modern polish (hd-2d and the like) why not just emulate it?

Some people might be more comfortable with buying a legit version that easily installs via Steam.

Could be, but I think a chunk of folks are gonna ask what I'm asking. Emulators are stupid easy to run these days, and SNES ones especially have been basically drag and drop for a decade plus

...and listed as "Coming Soon" on GOG already.

It's nice to not have to play a pirarte copy for years before being able to buy it, finally.

/me looks pointedly at Dragon Quest.

You reached the end
