Trump administration moves to impose more than $100,000 fee for H-1B worker visas
President Donald Trump's administration on Monday released a proposed regulation to codify an unprecedented fee of more than $100,000 on new H-1B visas for highly skilled foreign workers that has been blocked by the courts.
A federal judge in June ruled that the fee was illegal and blocked the Trump administration from collecting it. A Boston-based appeals court is reviewing that decision while a different court considers whether a judge properly rejected a challenge to the fee by a major business group.
Trump's temporary fee increase expires in September, one year after it was issued. The proposed rule by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, posted in the Federal Register on Monday, would make a fee of $103,265 permanent. It could be finalized by the end of the year.

One of the very few things he probably unintentionally is getting sort-of right. Visa loophole abuse is so disgustingly rampant in certain industries.
Now if they'd make layoffs require a bunch of extra work and restrict any hiring for a long period after, we might be getting somewhere (thinking specifically of how the tech industry in particular treats staff).
They need to open it up for nursing, among others, where there are real shortages of people who want to do the work, but lock it down for tech and skilled trades to where there's actually a shortage of workers and not just a shortage of workers willing to do the job for bullshit wages. With all the layoffs that have been happening, there is no excuse on earth for importing tech workers, the US labor market is absolutely awash in experienced tech workers.
My understanding is that people leave nursing because they are overworked and underpaid and working conditions tend towards abusive.
