Alarm over $20m plan to supply ICE officers with electric-shock gloves

Civil liberties groups decry plan to use gloves linked to death of Kentucky man allegedly shocked 27 times in county jail

Plans to supply Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers with special gloves that can deliver electric shocks have alarmed experts and drawn scrutiny amid some high-profile lawsuits over their use in local correctional facilities.

In one extreme case, a 43-year-old man died after allegedly being shocked 40 times by officers with a combination of the gloves and a Taser in a county jail in Kentucky, and the man’s widow is suing authorities.

Earlier this month, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the parent agency of ICE, published plans to spend up to $20m (£15m) to outfit ICE officers by March of next year with the controversial gloves, which are also used in various police departments and some schools.

I still don't understand how americans aren't rallied behind a national workers union? AFL CIO Don't they see that protests doesn't change anything? They ignore yall protests cause business continues as usual. And its his second term already... Hold all profit hostage untill trump and ICE are in jail, I cant take this anymore, how can anyone is beyond me. No respect untill americans learn to unionize or idk hold people responsible for their crimes

I sent a request to AFL CIO to get info on starting a union and they didn’t respond. I filled out the form on their site and heard nothing back.

The AFL CIO is fully onboard with this. I joined a union for this specific reason, but my local is full of right-wingers, and I'm not good at picking out "safe" people to talk to. The president of the AFL CIO put a speech in the monthly journal about a year ago, saying we're fully ready to support this administration because of the construction jobs that the prisons and data centers will bring.

Unionism is the only way out of this that I can see, but I don't have a way to give support for change from the inside.

Meh half of Americans still support ICE and think it's necessary to lock people up for being "illegal"

out of sight out of mind, if its not happening in thier neighborhood, or thier state they dont care. the propaganda was designed to make people apathetic.

Thank you for the link!

Six in 10 Americans disapprove of the job ICE is doing, while about 3 in 10 approve.

So in reality about twice as many people oppose ICE as support them. I think Americans have a lot of opinions they need to reconsider, but the ICE problem isn't being driven by that, it's being driven by a government that can pursue extreme and violent policies regardless of public opinion, which is a whole different problem to deal with, and I think that problem is only made worse by overstating the degree of popular support ICE has.

The question people need to be asking themselves about this issue is not "Why do so many people support this?", it's "Why doesn't our government listen to us?"

The fact that they still have power? The fact that Congress refuses to do anything? The fact that they have qualified immunity? https://youtu.be/fWJMZw8RkiY?is=19TAGq4spBynyQXX Trump supporters overwhelmingly support ICE, link above is from a NYC Trump rally. Go to any rural town and they will tell you ICE agents are heroes. The numbers are there, even in cities like los Angeles.

That's closer to reality I think.

A small percentage of people definitely support ICE. Maybe not everything ICE is doing, but overall.

But people who don't support ICE have a lot to worry about if the full weight of the federal government and their armed goons is unleashed on them and they are kidnapped to a concentration camp. Individuals don't stand a lot of chance resisting and not even Congressmen are having much luck changing anything.

6

So in other words more than a 60% supermajority of Americans don't support ICE

For MAGA Republicans

Cult members gonna cult. What percentage of likely voters are identifying as MAGA now and what was that same number in January 2025? Because I'd bet that's gone down

4

77% of republicans think the US is safer with how ICE is operating.

37% of the US is cool with it.

These things have killed people and they're using them on children
