An apology from a Canadian

An apology from a Canadian to our American friends.

I am sorry ordinary people on both sides of the border are going to get caught up in this trade war. I don’t want a trade war with you. I don’t think most Canadians do. We’ve been neighbours, friends, trading partners and allies for generations.

I’m sorry we’re at this point. This isn’t something to celebrate. I hope we can get back to being good neighbours again some day. Please fix your government.

No need to apologize for the wealthy's pissing match. People seem to confuse the bought off government on both sides with the people. This is not the people.

Please fix your government.

I've got some free time tomorrow morning, I'll see what I can do.

I'm sure you were being sarcastic, but if you could write some actual letters on paper I'd really appreciate it. Just articulating that this tradewar is bad for America, and not what you think the government should be prioritizing.

In Europe and America there's a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mister Khrushchev said, 'We will bury you'
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It'd be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too

How can I save my little boy
From Oppenheimer's deadly toy?
There is no monopoly of common sense
On either side of the political fence
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent to put
The words in the mouth of the president
There's no such thing as a winnable war
It's a lie we don't believe anymore
Mister Reagan says 'We will protect you'
I don't subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me and you
Is if the Russians love their children too

— Sting, “Russians” (1985), on The Dream of the Blue Turtles

The powerful have never given a shit about the masses unless we’ve joined in solidarity and refused them.

I twist the truth, I rule the world, my crown is called deceit I am the emperor of lies, you grovel at my feet I rob you and I slaughter you, your downfall is my gain And still you play the sycophant and revel in your pain And all my promises are lies, all my love is hate I am the politician and I decide your fate -- Lemmy

i wish you had the bigger military and could bring us freedom. some of us are fighting whats happening as we can. Its scary though. When protesting at smaller things I find 10-20% give signs of approval (its grown but also waned at times so sorta variable). 1% give signs of disaproval (generally not subtle) and honestly those of us regularly protesting are like 1%. Big protests like no kings get more like a few percent. Of the ones who don't show approval or disapproval you look at the last election and approval/disaproval it looks like he lost about a third of his supporters so hopefully 2/3 are for democracy and law over here. Its just crazy. Violating our constitution and laws, ignoring or breaking all international agreements, devastating our military and economic position, wasting money left and right, hollwed out and essentially destroyed all our federal departments. Seriously americans have no idea what america is or what it means to be a patriotic american. So many seem to think its the flag when our country is literally the constitution. It started when it was ratified and is gone when its not adhered to.

I'm sorry this whiney baby feels the need to apologize to you shit heels. Yes, I wish this weren't happening and I know a lot of Americans are against this. No, I do not feel bad that we're going to be inflicting economic pain on you.

You either asked for this directly, or did not enough to prevent it.

As dumbass said, we've been a reliable neighbour, friend and partner for a century. This is the thanks we get for it.

We haven't done anything wrong in our response, we haven't done anything that requires apology. Anyone who needs an apology from us can fuck right off. Any one of us that feels the need to apologize for this can fuck right off.

This is no longer one weird orange guy throwing a wrench into things, this is America showing us how they operate.

We are going to show you now how Canada operates. It isn't going to be flashy, were not going to change the world. Were all just gonna put our heads down and go to work without you.

Best of luck dealing with your bullshit. We'll be over here taking care of ourselves when you figure out how to behave again.

I think you misunderstood my post. I'm not apologizing for Canada's response. I support Canada's response. I'm saying I'm sorry ordinary Americans who didn't ask for this are going to get hurt by it. Apparently empathy makes me a "whiney baby." I hope you enjoy your import free potash and oil for now.

Yes, empathizing with the country threatening to annex ours does make you a whiney baby. Why is your first thought after all this to go apologize to some Americans who might not have played a direct role in this
