Yeah, I immediately thought tarrifs must be killing US alcohol manufacturers, because that is something that is easily replaceable... but the first sentence was about declining alcohol sales, which can't help either.
A couple of months ago there was a post here about the Australian government subsidizing wineries to grow product to create alcohol to use for vehicle fuel, so that the wineries had a market. Otherwise they made more wine than what the demand would use.

IIRC, rule of thumb is 90% of wine should be consumed within a year. A minority of types do benefit from aging but it's an outdated stereotype.
But it only goes up in price, and Americans cannot afford it already. Aging it won’t help sell it.
Pinot Noir was trendy because of that movie, but never had a chance as a mass market grape because to make good wine from it is very expensive.
There’s a reason white zinfandel moves cases year after year.
