Just wait until you hear how much this robot can dead lift.
That's funny. They praise the robots for smashing human records, but if you spend fifteen seconds watching the video, you can see the robots smashing into a padded wall. Doesn't matter how fast you're going, you wouldn't get far in the Olympics without knowing how to stay on your track.
Pretty sure a car can smash any record as well. Or a remote controlled car. Or an autonomous car. What are the metrics here? The legs? The robot didn't hop into a plane, booked a hotel and got into an uber who drove him to the track. I'm pretty sure fast robots exist for some time, they juat didn't look humanoid, which also seems like a weird metric. If you want to go faster, build something better than a bipedal humanoid.
If you look at the end of the video one runs around the corner.
These Olympics are really just tech demos showing the researchers current progress. In Western culture they wouldn't show incomplete demos like this as progress but China has their own way of it and doesn't shy away from the rough edges.
The focus of the researchers is clearly exclusively on the running part. A few years back these robots did not even finish. Now they are speedy.
