DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite Launches August 26 On Steam

The good news is that this doesn't appear to be a cut-rate re-release:

One of the biggest additions in DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite is the new “Royale” mode. The multiplayer battle mode pits up to 10 players against one another in a fight for survival, with players able to use various items to interfere with their opponents and attempt to remain the last player standing.

Beyond the new multiplayer features, DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite adds a new character, new stages, and new music while retaining the core gameplay that has made the DoDonPachi series a staple of the bullet-hell genre.

I really need to find or import a copy of one of the games in this series. I think I'll bite the bullet (hell) and just head over to Playasia and order a copy of Daioujou for Switch.

I hear DoDonPachi is really good.

Was trying to figure out my options to play it. Have there been any physical releases in the US of the various iterations in this series? Feel like LRG or somebody has to have put some out. But iirc it was JP or arcade only a long time?

I think it's really fun! A slightly different version of DoDonpachi Resurrection was released on the Switch a while back, and for the Xbox 360 way further back. I don't know if this new version is going to be put out physically though.

Thanks! Seems like the Switch one might be the one to go for, for me.

The series confuses me a little bit though. Sounds like this new Reignite is an enhanced and expanded Resurrection. But is Resurrection an extension of DoDonPachi, or a totally different game? And is DDP just building on DonPachi, or are those totally different games?

The game studio Cave made Donpachi first. Rather than make a direct sequel, they made a similar looking game with slightly different mechanics after that called DoDonpachi. They eventually released a total of five DoDonpachi games in the arcade, and a number of them have been put out on consoles and PC. There's lots of great information about the series here: https://www.hardcoregaming101.net/series/dodonpachi/

In my opinion it's one of the best bullet hell series out there!
