you can actually make the cat box comfy and just let the cat use it as a bed.

plus when you need to carry the cat around, you know where to find it.

I once saw someone at my apartment complex try to use a cardboard box as a cat carrier. The cat clawed him good and then busted out to take off running. The poor man's wife was not amused.

When I adopted my cat, the shelter actually used a cardboard carrier. This was several years ago, so I can’t remember if it was double corrugated, but maybe they just used regular carriers if the cats were more upset about carriers.

Yeah those cardboard carriers are handy for shelters since they come flat packed and are cheap enough to give away, but they're really single-use items. For carting cats between the shelter and adoptions fairs they'll typically have normal carriers since those are far more reliable
