it probably depends on what the scientist is researching

So if a scientist is a weapons researcher or a scientist who mentions that we oughta make poor people poorer they probably wont have a lot of fans amongst the people theyre walking amongst when theh move from place to place. But theyd probably have a lot of pig body guards to follow them paid by the government.

Last I checked 'Western Europe' wasn't a continent.

Auatrailia and Antarctica are the only ones someone can fairly freely travel around.
