What is this weird hatred of bicycles that certain people seem to have? It's legit one of the best inventions of all time.
A lot of the riders are assholes when meeting pedestrians.
Unfortunately, that isn't entirely wrong. There is always the few riders that think the pedestrian zone in the inner city is the perfect place to start their training session.
And I hate them just as much as car-centric weirdos. Just a different flavor of self-obsessed dickhead
Thank you. I feel the same way. I walk or use mass transit for 80-90% of my trips. I dislike bicycles. They have their place. Their place is not pedestrian streets in historic districts.

To be fair I can't imagine anyone driving faster than 20km/h in the center of Como. Those streets can barely fit any cars.
Being hit by a car at 20km/hr would still be much worse than being hit by a bike.

The fundamental issue in a lot of older cities is that the road system was designed for pedestrians and horses, not cars, scooters, bicycles, etc.
And it's difficult to restructure the surface road system to add more road, because you'd have to raze buildings.
It's expensive to add elevated highways, because cars are heavy, but I wonder how expensive it would be to add elevated bikeways. That could let the bicyclists/moped/etc crowd get around quickly and gets them out of pedestrian areas and car areas.
Bicyclists don't like being around cars, because they don't have much protection against being hit by cars. Pedestrians don't like being around bikes, because bikes can be moving much faster than pedestrians. Cars don't like being around bikes, because bikes slow the movement of traffic. Typically, the surface is designed around pedestrian access. So the only thing that there's a lot of potential to move is the bikeways.
Bicycles are perfectly fine for old cities, public transit too. Scooters take a bit of adjustment but could also work.
Cars though, nope. They clog up a lot of space using few people.
Also, I actually like having bicyclists near. Cars not at all. People aren't just pedestrians, they also bicycle or use public transit.
