The GTA6 leak is a marketing stunt

Every rockstar release since the first GTA had a wave of free publicity. This is no different.

And those who participate in it (including my opinion) is exactly what Rockstar wants to stop you from remembering that Rockstar retaliated against unions, pushed for crunch times, and pushed for digital-only games.

I'll never forget Rockstar is a shitty company I won't support.

...I'll forget the reasons why, but i'll never forget the nth article I read about them being shitty and deciding they are worthy of eternal unforgiving hate at this point.

Same goes for Nintendo, Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda, and possibly a few others.

Shame really.

DMA Design were literally at the cutting edge of game design and new ideas. Their implementationz were pretty fucking awesome too.

Money got involved. Publishers got more leverage. The name changed to Rockstar. And it all went to shit.

Shame.

edit: that mistyped "s" is a banging typo, I'm keeping it

It's always marketing:

  • video leaked for a video game
  • oh no, ChatGPT is too powerful and is hacking the internet
  • the design of the new iPhone has been leaked

I think the same thing about that Coyote vs. Acme movie. I don't think it was ever really shit-canned, they just delayed it a year or so and made up some bullshit to create a news story around it.

If it is a marketing stunt why can't I find these videos anywhere? I've seen short clip of basketball and small blue plane flying, is that all there is?

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I don't think the game needs it, though. It's easily the most highly anticipated game in decades. Going through the steps of faking a leak is just wasted effort.
