I see them as complementary, not antithetical.

I think what you’re saying is that you don’t want social media to be one-way “megaphone marketing”, and I agree with that. We also have the issue of not enough content being discoverable here in Lemmy, and I think piping in good feeds and discussing them is a great way to spur interaction, as long as it isn’t done in a way that drowns out or ignores the rest of the community.

There are a handful of blog or YouTube feeds that I’d consistently want to see everything they post from within whichever app I’m reading in. In other words, I don’t have to go to their blog or my RSS reader to see their updates because they also routinely appear in the Reddit app (or Lemmy) that I’m always in anyways.

Rogueliker.com is one, but there are some YouTubers like GohJoe, Haelian, and Veedotme whose feeds are “all killer, no filler” on the topic of roguelites, that I use to just find out about what’s new and cool.

I even created a custom RSS feed in Inoreader based on very narrow keywords that surfaces only “roguelites” OR “roguelikes” PLUS “Playstation”, “PS5” OR “Android”. The resulting feed, at least for me, is a densely relevant list of everything new in the world of roguish games that fits my personal requirements. Not saying that’d be relevant to everyone here, but something similarly tailored could be.

Maybe the answer is to feed those in one at a time, or to create my own aggregate feed of just the episodes and posts I think are absolutely worth sharing. I think if more of us had streamlined ways to do that, there’d be a lot more interesting content overall to look at in this sub. We can always downvote anything that sucks.
