That's great, but we should be wary of becoming dependent on tourism. I'm in one of the countries ahead of the curve on this problem (Croatia) and would not recommend following our lead in this regard.

I think it depends on the kind of tourist you're attracting? If you're catering to the type that gets blacked out drunk and smashes up the place then no, but tourists that come to enjoy the local landscape/culture/people then it's fine. I haven't been to Hrvatska but I visited your northern neighbor. Loved the country, would go back again 100%.
That's not the problem I have in mind - the problem is becoming economically dependent on the industry.

Been to both, but the country that stood out to me was Slovenia. Granted, I only visited Budapest in Hungary so it surely has more to offer, but Slovenia was something else. Went from watching snow fall in the mountains in the morning to having a swim in the ocean in the afternoon. Spectacular. Can't wait to go back, and this time I might also venture into Croatia a bit. I hear nice things about both the country and the people.

How is USA doing as a travel destination? ACC to Forbes, the USA has experienced a decline in international tourism since Trump returned to office. The "Trump Slump," has seen a sustained drop in foreign visitors, travel to the U.S. fell by 4.8% in January 2026 compared to the previous year, with steep declines from Asia (down 7.5%) and Europe (down 5.2%). The number of foreign tourists visiting the U.S. fell by 5.4% in 2025, and international visitor spending dropped by 4.6% last year, costing the tourism industry billions. Experts attribute this decline to restrictive policies, anti-American sentiment, and a stronger dollar, among other factors
and this happened during a World Cup, which is a massive tourism event.
Those numbers are not from the world cup time.
Spending might‘ve increased because prices of pretty much everything have but still. Europe is pretty damn beautiful and I curse myself for not visiting other places more.
