Sporting KC smashes record transfer fee — by nearly triple — on new designated player

Sporting Kansas City is entering a world it has never set foot in before. The club announced Tuesday morning it has signed Andre Luiz from Greek club Olympiacos. He has been signed to a five-year contract, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa.

While the transfer fee Sporting paid is undisclosed, the package has been reported by The Athletic as an $18 million upfront fee, with add-ons that take the total package to $22 million if certain performance markers are met
