Fucking hell. Was showing hubs a great video where the poster said point blank "if you're a guy and you start training for a marathon with a newborn you're a selfish bastard" and details the drive, discipline, time cost, etc. hubs immediately started bleating what ifs and trying to get into his thick fucking skull that no, you do not get to literally run away, you have a fucking newborn YOUR LIFE IS NOT YOURS was like trying to explain the goddamn rosetta stone to a turd.
Oof I’m sorry you had to deal with that. There’s no room for anything besides sleep, chores, and taking care of the new baby (thus allowing your partner to sleep or do chores). Everyone’s gotta sacrifice the big, super time-consuming hobbies for a while.
I wish we could be kinder to men who accidentally find their way here. I don't read all the rules to every place I post. They don't seem malicious most of the time.
You'll find that when men are polite when we remind them of the rules, we are very polite back and thank them for respecting this space.
It's when they double down and lash out after being reminded of the rules that some of us hold them to account.
I won't be kind to men that are rude to me or the other women in here.
Example:
This was a kind and empathetic response to being reminded of the rules
This man deserves no respect here
What games do y'all play?
I'm caring for my grandson and I get literally zero time in a day for myself, but his mum has started taking him on the weekends so I can actually have a bit of a break, I want to just sit with my feet up and absolutely zone into something, like I used to. But it's been so long! I don't know where to start, I'm absolutely getting decision paralysis. Help pls! I gotta rebuild my coordination back up and everything.
But also just curious what you do to enjoy just being, too. What things do you do, that have no purpose other than to bring you joy (best purpose of all)?
I am huge on worldbuilders. Old school ones - pharaoh, zeus, emperor : rise of the middle kingdom, dungeon keeper. Keeperfx and factorio are more recent, same deal
Oh I love a recommendations request! What games have you played and enjoyed before?
-Stardew Valley is always a good time-waster, I especially like to play while I'm watching something in the background.
-Thrifty Business is a cute little game where you run a thrift shop and can stock and decorate how you like! It's very queer-coded and very cute.
Personally, I am obsessed with podcasts and I enjoy tidying my home, baking, and painting my nails fun colors while listening to other people chatter on.
I absolutely love stardew Valley! Holy socks, I had absolutely forgotten about that gem! I feel like I've been playing it wrong, though. I need to look up a game play strategy or list of achievements and secret / easter eggs etc. I am absolutely going to deep dive that again.
I'll have to check out thrifty business! Sounds fab!
Previously I've loved, (besides Stardew) pvz, otherworlds, ugh, I can't think of any others right now, my brain is too full of rattling screws and lost paperclips or something.
I am trying to get into podcasts. Listening to people talk absolutely helps me power through the drudge of cleaning. I'm trying to declutter my life, currently. I had a move scare (renting and the owners sold, but new owners signed me on, yay!) And I haven't decluttered in years. I either worked a few jobs, so no time, more recently grandson and no supports = zero time. It's a next level of boredom, though, doesn't just feel soul draining, feels like it also drains the souls of my ancestors, it's that boring (gee, I wonder why I avoided it for so long).
Long story short, if you happen to have any podcast recommendations, I'd be hugely grateful.
The Stardew Valley subreddit is chock full of good tips! I normally wouldn't recommend Reddit for anything, but the niche subs are still great. Otherwise, there's really no wrong way to play it!
I started listening to podcasts a lot when my son was a baby and I had to fill that time with something that wasn't revolving around baby care haha. So I get it! Lately I've been really digging:
-This Podcast Will Kill You
-You're Wrong About
-Behind the Bastards
Thanks! I absolutely avoid reddit, but ultimately it is our contributions, I'll give it a go digging over there for some ideas etc, thanks thanks!
Those podcasts sound like they'd be right up my alley, just from the titles alone!
Gosh, I should've left a little description of each now that I think about it haha
This Podcast Will Kill You covers different diseases and health issues. It's two smart ladies talking science and health!
You're Wrong About is a hodge-podge of little deep dives into different subjects. I pick and choose from the catalogue pretty frequently.
Behind the Bastards does heavier episodes on the real bastards in history - I'm currently on their episodes about the dictator Francisco Solano Lopes from Paraguay. Really fascinating stuff!
Oh thanks, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply you should have explained. They're definitely exactly the stuff I'm into. I've always had a deep interest in medicine. It's been kicked up a notch after watching "the pitt". I actually have a couple of podcasts you might like, your explanations reminded me of them I found through tiktok, I'll just go find them and come back. I've been struggling to find a good podcast app since moving away from Spotify because of all the evil.
Eta here's one: "who did what now" Whoever said history was boring obviously wasn't paying attention. Each week, join Katie Charlwood, history harlot and reader of books. as she delves into the people, places and events that make history a bit more interesting.
I’ll definitely be checking out Who Did What Now! That’s right up my alley :) thanks!!
Well, I met a major life goal today: I'm one year sober.
::: spoiler punchline Not consecutive, obviously. Across my adult life span. :::
Got a new accusation lobbed at me today that I haven't seen yet on Lemmy:
I must be ruffling feathers quite a bit around here haha
Omfg he tried to use the "it was just a joke" defence when called out. 🤣 What's next "you're too sensitive" or "actually I'm the victim".
Jesus Christ 😳😳😳
Ah cute, he's followed me here to continue to accuse me hahaha.
As my recent comment in another thread stated - these types of men show their true nature incredibly quickly if I dare to disagree with them.
Who needs a blocking?
Ooh looks like I’m getting famous! Being quoted on other communities no less! I went to your profile to put a MAGA tag on it but found comment gold instead.
You realize that was made in jest, right?
Guess that ticks another box:
At least link the comment, it was funny! I even put in a meme for you.
Just wanted to put this here for anyone who saw my mini saga of trying to decide to make a community. I'm not gonna flake, I'm gonna do it. I've just got a mountain of things that need doing in the 'real' world that I think I should tackle before making any commitments here.
My insta algorithm has started showing me a lot of women pole dancing. As a feminist am I allowed to lustfully watch them? It is pure lust.
Haha thanks for the validation
Looking respectfully is certainly allowed!
Especially for women pole dancing, goodness gracious :3
I'm not sure how respectful I'm being... I nearly drooled on my screen earlier
Combo of envy and lust here. Probably more envy, honestly.
Didn't want to make a whole post about it but I got some new platform sneakers recently. Super comfy.
They're wicked!
Thanks! I can't wait to get them fully broken in.
Those are sick! Love the industrial goth look of them.
Thanks! The brand is called Yosuke. I was going to get some Demonia shoes but then I read that they weren't long-lasting.
