Actually a thinner layer of dust than I spected.
Since there is wind and the rover is moving, it probably blows away some of the dust.
It's been dustier in the past (a few times), it all depends on the amount of wind (the winds are seasonal) :)
That penny was probably pretty shiny before it got there.
It was... It was cleaned before launch. Here is a photo of it after cleaning..
We should launch an updated rover today and send the actual severed head of whomever the US President happens to be today, so that they might live on forever in history and a series of fun and festive calibration photos.
If whoever the current President happens to be doesn't understand the important scientific value in this, I've been told that Obama has volunteered to let us use his head instead.
That's maybe a bit out of place for this community.
Sorry, didn't realize a community dedicated to something done by a part of the US Government is offended by politics. Or loves the current President? Either way, my bad. I didn't mean to accidentally mix the US government in with the US government where it's unwanted.
Yes, your bad. Also, pretty weak reasoning trying to justify the politics episode with "but the rover was made by a guberment how dare you not want to talk about murica instead".
I made a joke about updating the head used for calibration. I think you'll manage to survive this difficult time.
