Green Heron Honing Its Skills

A juvenile green heron just figuring life out. While perched at the waters edge, it debates on attempting to do some fishing. Young Green herons rely on easy pickings like slugs and insects before they master the art of catching fish. They slowly learn through a mix of natural instinct along with trial and error. I identified this as a juvenile because of the streaked neck and chest along with the grey hairs on it's crown, I shared a photo of a full grown adult in the comments for a comparison!

We can't disprove that's what's going on up in that head!
We have great blue herons where I am but I've never seen a green one. They look like they would be harder to spot though, so it doesn't mean they aren't around.
These are smaller (a little bigger than a crow) and rely on camouflage, so they like to remain unseen. Keep an eye for them along the shoreline or perched up in trees. They also have a distinct high pitched screechy call to listen for.
