I also have a story of finding everything I need - not tech, but an assortment of clothes and household textiles, when broke and new in town. I went out, happened to be the old textile collection day, and the street was full of bags. The first bag I opened had the exact pieces I wanted.
I envy you for the sony speaker - got to use one a few months ago and was surprised that I do care about the musical details once I can hear them.

It’s quite fun :) baby loved dancing with it. I haven’t used non-wired earbuds in so long I was also surprised by the quality of Sony earbuds.

I think it was a wealthier Chinese resident who tossed it as they maybe had the newer versions and didn’t want to deal with handling it otherwise. A Japanese person would never throw something like this away.

lol, you're right, after re-reading it, being exactly what I wanted does sound like it's because I stole it.

I have dumpster dived before but it was just in a small trash bag in my apartment’s trash room on a table for electronics. Pretty stoked :)
