As they should. Get on board.
There is an awesome documentary movie on the satanic temple from 2019
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hail_Satan%3F
I've heard the parties are super fun.
I like the part when they put the wafer in the puss and then LaVey tries and fails to awkwardly piss on stage
Seems like this satanic temple has very much in common with secular liberal values from europe.
This is so bad for optics if actually true. I don't care one way or another but this will absolutely affect the narrative.
is this a bot comment? it's saying basically nothing and is word salad-y
No? I'm a dumb meat puppet like you
Or try no religion and no church at all. Just live life and enjoy your time without magical crutches.
The Satanic Temple isn't a religion in the traditional sense. They also do a lot of activism. Here are their tenets:
They're different than the Church of Satan, associated with LaVey Satanism which is a bit more what people tend to think of, though that's also still technically atheist
I've known about them for a long time. Since before Hail Satan? came out. I support their mission but know many people who begin treating it as others do traditional religion and I think we'd be better off fighting our battles through secular humanist groups.
Ironic username aside, it would seem you're making wild assumptions about something without knowing the most basic information about it. You couldn't have done the bare minimum research before going off?
I don't expect that of people anywhere, it's sad but true. I never truly lose hope but have realised it's not healthy to expect better. It sucks that fully uninformed reactions are the basic thing but people keep proving that's the case.
Username not ironic. I've gone through many flavors of both theistic and atheistic Satanism and see people end up becoming rigid with belief. Even TST keeps infighting and causing schisms within itself. It's all so fucking stupid and we should seek to better the self through the self and stop using these pseudo-spiritual crutches. We should build secular humanist groups to get ourselves out of this Christofascist quagmire and not play by their rules and definitions.
Why would I avoid a cult to join another?
It's not a cult, look into it
I've looked into it. Indeed, they make sense in the context of the USA (I'm french). It's weird that in such a presumably powerful country, church and state are not separated, and that people have to rely on creating an organization perceived as religious to defend their rights under the cover of freedom of religion. So, the satanic temple is some kind of loophole in quite a fucked-up system. I wish them good luck.
Exactement
SPOILERS: tst aren't actually satan worshipers. they use the aesthetic to do based things and troll evangelicals
Aren't they really into rape?
no, that's the catholic church.
Where would you get an idiot notion like that? Maybe from church? Or right wing talking heads?
From some video from an ex-supporter. Now I can't find it, I just see right-wing propaganda.
The video was about an ex-member, who got sexually assaulted by an important member of the group.
you seem to have a very low bar regarding information veracity before you run off disparaging others.
do better
1 person? So you smear all of them?
Nope
Every accusation is a confession.
not nearly at the level of the average american
edit: addressing the angry comments early with this - 1/3 of eligible voters like a rapist. 1/3 of eligible voters were okay enough with a rapist to not vote. that's a fact. deal with it.
Try a Unitarian universalist Church. No Satan. No God.
Basics...
The Satanic Temple is a non-theistic sect of Satanism. They don't believe in an actual Satan, he's more like a symbol for self-betterment
I know what satanism is.
It's not self betterment. It's just selfish.
To reach their round
No, that’s not how facts work.
You obviously don't given you are just regurgitating christian dogma
What's satanism?
Seems like you don't actually know what Satanism is. Spoken like a true Christian
I'm militant atheist.
I would be very cool and supportive of putting Christ on the cross again.
As an athiest myself, the funny thing about militant athiests is that they're almost exactly the same as Christians and you just prove that
you're thinking of LaVeyan Satanism. that's different than TST
It's not exactly popular to talk about it here in this community, but the satanic temple REALLY sucks as an organization too.
In what ways is TST a bad organization?
Upper leadership is rife with predatory behavior, Lucien Greaves has said a lot of really problematic racist and white supremacist stuff, and there's a difference between schools of Satanism within the temple. Basically, there's an amoral, "might makes right" interpretation of Satanism that can act as an ideological framework to enable all sorts of abuse, and then there's the "one's own body is inviolable, support queer liberation" style of Satanism. The upper leadership (in my experience) is mostly the former type of Satanist, whereas the general membership are the latter. So the org has a lot of problems.
IIRC, The Satanic Temple started as a satirical project (“if cruelty and oppression is Christian, what if Satanism was about being nice?”) and then ran away. When the flaws in the organisation/the founders’ histories came to light, dissatisfied members/supporters formed new groups more sincerely committed to basically humanism and social justice in Satanistic theatrical costume, such as the Global Order of Satan.
Both of these groups are still ahead of Anton LaVey’s Church of Satan, which started as an Ayn Rand-inspired backlash against 1960s hippie peace-and-love, but these days would be indistinguishable from Republican Christianity except for the symbols.
Do you have sources for this? I'd like to read more about it
Some of it's my own personal experience, I've been a Satanist for the last 15 or so years. But some of it's also from Dead Domain's videos on the Satanic Temple.
Well put, thank you.
Trash people should be crucified. or worse
Go fuck yourself
You first Sally.
I'm fucking myself whenever I feel the need. Sally is a cute name too 🥰
It's not any more corrupt than the christian organizations. Would I love it to be a perfect blameless foil? Sure. But sparing that, it tries to be kind and accepting, faithful to a creed Christians have allowed themselves to forget en masse.
If you are of that flock, you need to study more. Look into the role of Satan—how it evolves between the testaments; who wrote the gospels, when, and under what political pressures. It's convenient to believe what you're told—but I recommend the hard liberty before the easy yoke. One should not indulge in such decided opinions without an understanding.
Phew. Good thing I'm a genius talking to fucking idiots on Laramie!
That's a great option, as they're extremely welcoming to everyone. This is probably the wrong community for it, though!
That... says a lot.
About whom?
Word twist on "extremely welcoming to everyone"
personally, I think we are extremely welcoming to everyone
You'll have no capacity for the satanic self love without compassion and love for others, even your enemies...
