[META] Rule review - feedback request

In https://lemmy.world/post/50116148 , I asked for ideas on how to improve the rules.

The 3 pieces of feedback I received:

  1. should we have a “no mass downvoting” rule? too often I see an unpopular opinion post where every OP comment just gets blanket downvoted despite very much engaging in good faith - 2 upvotes, 0 downvotes
  2. I just wish people upvoted unpopular opinions, instead of the opinions they agree wirh. Anything people don’t agree with, they downvote. :( - 18 upvotes, 0 downvotes (not sure if this is something we can easily turn into a rule)
  3. Remove no politics rule. Let’s get some political unpopular opinions - 4 upvotes, 3 downvotes

Let me know what we should change from the list above - if anything.

It appears no changes this year. Now, there's nobody stopping you from creating a [META] post asking for rule changes.

Until next year, have fun, and stay unpopular!

I think allowing politics would be a shit show. If it’s something a majority of folks really want I’d suggest starting with a dedicated day of the week.

Not a bad idea. I HATE politics (ignore the fact that I moderate politicalmemes), because it's always a fight.

I'd probably unsubscribe. Politics are so exhausting. That sounds like something that deserves it's own community: /UnpopularPoliticalOpinions

Hell no to politics. By the rules the most toxic takes on the fediverse would be getting upvoted to the front page here.

The hypothetical "Kamala would have been worse then Trump for the country" thread is already giving me pre-ptsd.

Hell no to all of the above.

I have always viewed a massive number of downvotes in the same way as a massive number of upvotes.

"mass downvoting" means blanket downvoting comments, not just a post getting too many downvotes

You mean like one account just blanket downvoting every comment?

Seems like it would be a pain to enforce with little benefit

1

pain to enforce? simply look at any OP comment that mods think was unfairly downvoted and put a downvoter's name into lemvotes

I specifically do not include politics in my Lemmy experience. I get enough of it everywhere else, and there are plenty of places to hear unpopular opinions about politics. Honestly, I would unsubscribe if that went away.

As for mass downviting, I see the appeal of a rule. There are some new voting options coming in 1.0 though, I'd hold off until those come and then revisit it.

Mass voting is inevitable when you get idiots just trying to farm...and for UO that's got to be easily 50%

I always remember a video years ago of some chick complaining that men look at her arse, all whilst turning her arse to the camera. And i find that effect a lot on places like this....dont look at my arse...but look at my arse. You can court the attention you created and call it what it is, or you can stop it. Simple.

politics - keep as is, its too oversaturated on fedi
