untitled - watercolor on paper
this is a variation on the "what I see when I close my eyes" pieces I've made (a few posted about 4 months ago), I altered the actual color to purple

Do you get migraines? It looks kind of like what I see when I get one.
I get opthalmic migraines once in a while. This isn't from that. My opthalmic migraine give me a glitter silver effect in the lower third of me vision, and I cannot see the very center, so reading is difficult. This is more of stuff I see when I close my eyes, often at night when I'm going to bed. This was just something I saw closing eyes when I was chilling. Might be related to the opthalmic migraine, but not a full blown one. I can't really say when color it was, but I thought purple would look good.
Mine is usually a weird zigzag kind of effect off to the side that spreads and fades. No pain though usually. I also get the 'light show' when I'm fatigued and close or rub my eyes, but you're probably right that it's unrelated. It's funny how it can feel like an indefinable colour. Cool that you captured it in painting though!
Thanks. I remember the first time it happened. I called my wife and we went to emergency care. The doctor there was pretty calm, and gave me some articles he printed out explaining opthalmic migraines. I was pretty nervous, because that first time it was scary. I thought I was having something like a stroke.
For all my ophthalmic migraine buddies, (mine is sort of a sparkly crystalline rhomboid that gets bigger and "closer" until it seems like I've passed through it) :
It's good to know what it is and relax about it. BUT if one day you get something quite different from the usual, don't assume it's migraine. My dad got a weirdly different one, and it turned out to be melanoma in his brain. Finding out the truth didn't save him but it bought him time to "get his affairs in order" for my mom's sake and finish a book that was important to him
I don't typically care for abstract art but this one is very pleasing
Interesting 🤔, do you see sharp edges? I've seen something similar if you press your eyes slightly, but more like shifting spots
Texture is nice. Is that amethyst?
Color is violet, it is watercolor paint in tubes. I was not thinking of amethyst when I painted this. But I like that you saw that. I appreciate hearing that.
