Most definitely not

Just something that has bothered me for a long time. I mean, I know that the YouTube algorithm has been shit even before the inclusion of AI, but now that they apparently use it, let’s be honest: our feeds are now more crammed full of shit than a sewer.

If the algorithm was shit before AI and its shit after AI, maybe the issue isn’t AI, but the mega corp running the whole thing.

YouTube is like a casino that they are learning how to build as they go. Every light bell and whistle they try to cram in is to get you to keep the tab open longer. AI didn’t enlighten them to profit, this is how it’s always been. They will happily throw recommendations at the wall and see what sticks especially if it helps them train the algorithm to make more stick.

You have a point: part of the problem is undoubtedly the hands behind the scenes, but I do think AI is also partly responsible for the increase in shit on the platform. It has definitely got worse since the inclusion of AI. Mega corps don’t directly select what gets put in your feed — AI does, if implemented in the algorithm. However, the people working the mega corps are the ones implementing/controlling these features.

But I agree: mega corps have a big hand in all this.

Most of the videos are still produced by real people I guess, but the slop levels are definitely rising.

I hate ai. A lot. But honestly, my feed has gotten a lot better recently. I actually get recommended queer content snd low viewer count stuff now.

My feed isn't because I don't have one. I turned my history off years ago. Fuck algorithms.

Let's he fair, recommendations were shit before 2021 so we can't blame specifically that on AI
