I've never thought of the series Mr. Robot as a kind of guide.
Maybe I got that wrong?

Data centers are a key component of the technofascist state. You're not allowed to oppose data centers.

They need the data centers to operate the totalitarian surveillance state and killbots.

The proles aren't gonna genocide themselves once their labor has been automated.

Just FYI, most boards will ask that those attending refrain from clapping after every speaker so that the meetings can advance without interruption. These board meetings have agendas and some can last all day. If there was clapping after every speech, it could stretch the duration quite a bit, so the board usually sets limits on behavior in the room.

Im curious how many times they asked her to please stop clapping. Looks like they were warned multiple times.

Also, regarding the speaking too long arrest, the boards also set limitations on calls to the public. Its usually about 3 minutes or so. If they didnt set time limits, people could just jabber on all day and the board wouldnt be able to conclude their meetings and get to other agenda items.

The point is, be prepared, make your case, be concise, and respect the time of everyone there. You can strongly oppose flock cameras and give others a chance to also oppose them.

If you think it's reasonable to use violence to make sure a meeting stays on schedule, I think there's little for us to discuss. That sort of thinking allows the state to continue to do fucked up shit and peg those who respond with appropriate outrage as "being unreasonable" or even "violent." See, for example, the viral video of a trans woman being arrested in FL for demanding a tiny modicum of respect.

Nothing changes by playing strictly by the rules because the people doing fucked up shit make the rules and they are designed to prevent change.

I mean, what option do you have if the person just refuses to act right? From the explanation above, it sounds like they were making the meeting even more unbearable than it already would have been.

1

Making the meeting unbearable is the point. It is one of few ways us peons have to make our elected officials listen to our concerns. They're not supposed to be comfortable. Again, if you believe it's appropriate to use state violence against a person who is clapping, I think you've got some messed up priorities.

2

It's not just elected officials there, it sounds like she was dragging things out for everyone involved.

Every meeting is someone's revolution.

The boards/councils are typically elected officials who the people chose to lead these meetings. You're always welcome to gather your peers and tell the board members that that they should allow more time to complain. Another option is to run for office and set the new standard. This is why local elections are super important, and people should get involved with various levels of government instead of just the federal level stuff.

2

All of that is working so well. 🙄

ETA: the above is essentially the schoolhouse rock understanding of our political system. Unfortunately, it ignores the reality of a system designed to stymie citizens' ability to affect change. Wait your turn, speak when permitted, get to vote for city council once every four years is a system where playing by the rules does nothing. Especially when over the course of those few years while attempting to oust those fuckers, numerous long-term damaging contracts can be signed and not easily gotten rid of by those who succeed them even if the political will is there. Yes, local politics is important, but being polite and abiding by all the rules is a sure means to get nothing done.

Who says you have to be polite? You can go up and speak your mind without being polite. You absolutely have the right to.

Not all elected officials are on 4 year cycles. You are discounting how soon you can affect change. It starts today. Go start your revolution and tell the people who represent you in our government what you would like them to do. They don't know your side of the story until you tell them.

The problem is that speaking one's mind within the limited frameworks provided does very little. In order to get a politician to pay attention you must, at minimum, make them uncomfortable or threaten their political future.

Here's a concrete example of what "telling your representative what you'd like them to do accomplishes (received in response to a letter I wrote to my senator against KOSA):

Thank you for writing to share your thoughts regarding online safety for children and teens. I appreciate hearing from you.

Our children are among the most vulnerable members of our society, and I strongly believe that we have an obligation to care for their mental and physical well-being. Digital platforms have become key spaces for education, socialization, and entertainment for young people, and it is important that they are able to utilize these services safely.

The “Kids Online Safety Act” (S.1748), introduced by Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), seeks to provide young people and their parents with tools, safeguards, and information that would be helpful to safely navigate online services. This bill is awaiting consideration by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, of which I am not a member.

I voted in favor of this bill on the Senate floor last Congress because I believe many of its provisions would meaningfully help protect the health, wellbeing, and safety of children and teens online. I take seriously your concerns that this bill may have negatively impacted individual privacy and freedom of expression online. The sponsors made substantive changes to the bill aimed at mitigating those very issues, which is why I ultimately felt comfortable supporting the bill on the floor.

Please know that I appreciate hearing your perspective on this important issue, and I will keep your thoughts in mind as I continue working with my Senate colleagues on issues that address the experiences of minors online.

Once again, thank you for writing. Should you have any other questions or comments, please call my Washington, D.C. office at...

Due to corporate influence, no number of letters will move these congress critters to do anything in the interests of the average person. We sadly live in the world we live in now due to the lies told to generations of children that voting is all you need to do and that the system is designedtoo uphold our rights. Can political pressure work? Yes, but it requires doing things that make politicians uncomfortable, which might include, God forbid, clapping at a fucking city council meeting.

So you think clapping at meetings and talking longer than the time allocated to you is going to have a different result?

0

I think its the most mild moderate action that intrudes on their lives. No. If they don't lostenthey need to be killed and replaced with a better system, where people are less alienated from the decisions that matter in their lives.

1

Well, tactics like that were the only thing that got my city to cancel their flock contract, so yeah. They demanded we limit flock comments to a short portion of the meetings and we continued to flood every meeting and every topic until they had no choice but to listen. Its's like yall never heard the disobedience in civil disobedience.

2

If using violence to keep a meeting on schedule is okay, using violence on the architect ts of data centers is okay.

2

At least twice personally, according to the text shown in the video, plus a general warning in advance for everyone.

respect everyone

Why, when the point of solidgoldmagikarp is that they don't respect you?

Don't respect them. Don't speak to them. Kill them.

Is that how we should handle all government proceedings going forward? Just kill all the town/city/county board members?

Yes.

At least it works in Skyrim.

Talking doesn't work. Voting isn't real, you're just choosing which asshole abuses and ignores you. Whether they'll cheer about it or gaslight you.

They don't do anything good. I don't knowvif it was lies, but my parents talked about them building schools and roads and parks and stuff. They don't anymore. It's just an engine of violence.

And since it can't be negotiated with, can't be communicated with by words, and nobody's coordinated enough for meaningful nonviolent resistance (not just sign waving) because every time they do the state comes in and Violences them, what else is there, to prevent them stealing all your water for data centers?

You need water, dude. If you run out if it you die.

So you're going to murder someone for being elected in their local election by the people who live around you? Who would want to campaign for those positions in your local government if you're just going to kill them?

1
quokk.au

You can be elected without your consent.

Why is using violence only okay for the powerful?

Why does anyone need to be in thosenpositions? It looks like a shitty way to organize society.

And I need water or I'm going to die, so taking that is violence. You get that right? If someone tries to kill you,and points a gun at you when you tell them to stop, what the fuck else areypu supposed to do? File a fucking complaint about them pointing a gun at you last time you complained?

2

Just curious what you think happens after you kill an elected official. We all live happily ever after? What happens next?
