Google just had its first negative cash flow quarter due to massive "AI" spending

Google has reported its financial results for the second quarter of 2026 (PDF), and as usual, the search giant raked in an unfathomable amount of money. Google saw total revenue of $119.8 billion, beating analyst expectations by a comfortable margin. Despite that, the company’s stock has taken a hit. Along with all that revenue, Google has announced a further increase in its AI-fueled capital expenditures (or capex). The company is actually spending so much on AI infrastructure that it has negative cash flow for the first time.

When I was young and naive, I thought that smart people worked at google... lmao.

your young self was right. the inventors of pagerank are pretty fucking cool, they also made an entire book on it, technology back then wasn't just smoke and mirrors if you understood linear algebra. Main note: they were employees of google.

Tech companies did cool shit when it wasn't about collecting data and profiling users. now they're ruthless scums trying to find by any means how to capitalize off of you.

Lots of smart people work at Google. They are not included in senior management.

Lots of smart people work at Google just about every company. They are not included in senior management.

Yea. Google had paraded around like a University and showed their “freedom” of knowledge in the early day with smart creative people working for them. Now, after they went public, the corporate greed reared its ugly head and has been slowly eroding the company for users in favor of investors and “growth”. Google need to be broken up.

It is time the behemoths of the past wither away and die taking their billionaire founders and investors down with them. Being here, dear reader, is one of the small things you can do (and are doing) to speed this up. We don't need our lives inventoried and categorized by Google, cheap polluted products that we don't need from Amazon or sub par electric vehicles from Tesla. All while their nauseatingly wealthy owners fund space travel for the extremely rich, brainwash people to further their agenda and steal and sell our own knowledge back to us at a premium.

I agree it’s a beautiful thing, just not sure it’s the explanation of their negative cash flow right now

I didn't say it's a reason behind their negative cash flow, I said let's not forget about it

Hopefully the first of many negative quarters before they're sold to private equity and picked apart by the buzzards.
