Russia is known to have a lot of tanks but they are needed for real purposes and cannot be risked.
Note that none of the experts I'm referring to above have access to classified information.
Both but that is a LOT of tanks if they are actual main battle tanks and they weren't all destroyed together at a depot in a lucky strike or something. Losing that many from general attrition across the front in a day is nightmarish (for them).
