Cool article. Absurd they needed azerty for the page to work.

I also hate those verifications with one box per number, half of the times they do not work. Just have and input text box and write somewhere how many digits the code should have.

And the worst of those don't have auto-advance between the boxes. Whoever designed that is hell-bound. Equally bad are the one used by one of my banks that randomly orders the boxes just to add to your cognitive load without actually providing any more security. And their passphrase validation rules massively reduce the search space, while still being a pain in the ass.

Is this why some verifications don't let you paste the code?

Why would it use JavaScript to intercept key presses rather than just read a form?
