N...no? Why would it? They committed real crimes, served time in a prison but then got out somehow.

More like, yay someone finally arrested these known human traffickers! Distopian part: and they've been selling online coursework how to pimp and abuse women for a decade. Many young men think its fantastic stuff. The US has embraced them as successful buisness men and examples. Meanwhile 2 other nations have tried to make the law stick to these rotten potatoes.

14

I want to pirate that coursework. Not because I want to consume it. I heard piracy is bad for the creators. I want to pirate it just for the sake of that.

The main diddler will have no power in this case once they are out of the US... they're being extradited.

Anybody want to take bets on whether he'll try to stop extradition, though?

It'll be interesting to see what he does... on the one hand, it's his chance to 'own the libs' to rally his base. On the other, it could bring Epstein back into focus.

it’s his chance to ‘own the libs’

Since when to 'the libs' like the Tate brothers?

-6

By getting them released he will completely piss off and distract 'the libs' - that is the 'own'.

He has to be desperate for a new "supplier" after his BFF Epstein was suicided, maybe he's thinking these morons fit the bill.

5

after his BFF Epstein was suicided

You say that as if he didn't order it done himself.

(Or, hey -- one of my favorite conspiracies: Did you ever see Epstein's body? I didn't. Maybe they just said he was suicided (perhaps with some poor lookalike soul swapped in for him), but he was actually whisked out of prison and taken to his next island where he could keep offering his services to the rich and powerful.)

3

If he did this it would kill the extradition treaty we have.

Which considering the USA uses it way more than us would hurt them more.

6

USA has been pushing all kind of shit and UK politicians often give in because they're Trump fanboys or pushovers, so the US does have power. How long and how far that goes remains to be seen

5

Let's get them locked up. They're currently riding the wave of extremism and even young lads are starting to think they are "getting their manliness back".

I keep hearing about these guys being rounded up over and over, but is anyone ever going to prosecute them for something?

Like all bad things that are happening at the moment it's trump's fault. They were arrested in Romania and were in a Romanian prison until Trump got involved and kept threatening things until the Romanian authorities released them.

They should have told Trump to spin on it, he wouldn't have done anything.

22
lemmy.zip

Weren’t these guys arrested like 10 years ago?

17
piefed.zip

I don't think it was that long, but at least Andrew had been in prison in Romania already. Complaining how he's a victim of communist state violence etc. Not sure why they got out, but I'm glad the UK is picking up the ball.

It's not like these guys are going to stop to abuse women (and brag about it online) otherwise.

20

They got out because the US "leaned" on Romania to release them.

In February 2025, according to the Financial Times, Richard Grenell played a key role in securing the release of Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, two influencers prosecuted in Romania on charges of rape and human trafficking. He discussed the matter with Romanian foreign minister Emil Hurezeanu at the 61st Munich Security Conference. Grenell denied any pressure on the Romanian government.

…have developed a following for content that promotes hyper-masculinity

I object to this phrasing. What they do isn’t masculine, only moreso. It isn’t masculine, just really really masculine.

What they do is toxic, abusive, and criminal. That shit should not be anywhere on the scale of masculinity.

17
nickiwestreply
lemmy.world

You are correct.

I wonder how normal, healthy men can "take back" the concept of masculinity and get young people to ignore the toxic teachings coming out of the "manosphere." I think that Louis Theroux tried with his documentary, but I'm not sure it reached a wide enough audience.

6

King Charles expects now a call from potus that the arrest was somewhat rigged and that he needs to release them asap

Zronreply

I’d rather they get their trial in the states.

The UK has some bizarrely lenient sentencing for sex crimes. Like months or a couple of years. These chuckle fucks should rot for as long as possible, not only for their crimes but also as a punishment for the damage they’ve done to a generation of boys and young men.

5

Not in this case though. What you're talking about is sexual assault but these two are facing far more than just a few sexual assault charges (not that those aren't serious either), including kidnap, false imprisonment, human trafficking, and money laundering.

The concern in sexual assault charges is always the possibility of false accusations. Sadly some people seem to try and use trumped up historical sexual assault accusations against people that they have a vendetta against, and it's kind of hard for the other party to defend against. How do you prove you didn't commit a crime 15 years ago when there's no evidence either way?

4

At this point, I will take whatever justice we can get to put those clowns in jail.

2

DeSantis and/or Trump (depending on whether the charges are in state court, federal court, or both) pardon incoming in 3..2..1..

I hope I'm wrong, but both of them would do that shit with little to no bribes or political pressure needed 😮‍💨🤬

The charges are in the UK, the arrest was for extradition. Not sure who has what power to block that but I'm not holding my breath that they actually face justice just yet.

22

My guess will be if they haven't already been flown out, Trump will have them delayed somehow so he can use this as a pressure tactic against the new PM.

But then again, that almost sounds too smart.

4

not so fun fact: paywall is what pushes ppl to use AI to get the summaries

No clue who they are, but they seem to be awful people so hooray.

-2
piefed.zip

I know you seem to think this gives you some sort of "I only care about important things" cred, but you have to be ignorant of huge problems with our society to not know who they are, so maybe dial back the performance.

11

Proud ignorance as a moral high ground. A disease in itself

12

I read the news every day and haven't a clue who these people are either.

1

I didn’t know who Tate was for a long time, and I wasn’t ashamed of that..

Much of my family don’t.

I love my Mom as an example. I cannot describe how much she hates misogynists… it’s almost comical. She hates them with her soul. She’ll throw them into a wall. She was a tentative Republican for a long time, but the instant she saw Donald Trump open his mouth on TV she went straight out and voted for Hillary Clinton and every Democrat she could find.

But she didn’t know who Andrew Tate was when I asked.

That’s fine. He’s an influencer for the chronically online, and I think people forget that.

Abyssianreply

Genuinely have no idea who they are. I couldn't care less about the Internet fame bullshit, and have never understood why some people pay attention to any of them.

-3

You think caring about random asshats on social media is a prerequisite to reading and commenting on news?

-7
lemmy.blahaj.zone

Do you pay attention to the actual news? The vast majority of reporting on the radicalisation of boys and young men to the far right in the past few years has mentioned Andrew Tate by name.

This is a news community. Seems fairly clear I pay attention to the news in general. As for news about social media personalities, no. I don't care what someone on youtube or tiktok says. It's weird to me that so many people seem to.

-4
Abyssianreply

If I see something like "online influencer" I'm ignoring it. Because that would be news about social media personalities. I don't give a fuck.

-2

Incredibly stupid attitude. Do you think everyone who reads about fascism is interested in fascism? Eager to get the latest updates from how fascists are doing?

The manosphere crap is already affecting your life whether you're aware of it or not. This is not celebrity gossip, it is the same hijacking of new media that 10 years ago put a reality TV host in the White House. Things aren't relevant to you until they are very, very relevant to you.
