Is there really a difference between an LCD & OLED screen on the Switch?

The Switch 1 has both (LCD & OLED) variants, as the original one came out with an LCD screen by default while the OLED one came out in 2021 (and the ToTK special edition of that console released when the game came out). For me, I prefer the OLED panel since the colors look sharper & vibrant. Also, it makes no sense as to why the Switch 2 reverted back to an LCD screen when they literally could've made that OLED by default.

OLED is a pricier part but is darker and more efficient. Price is the main concern on switch 2.

Yes, it does. Especially if you play outside in the sun.

And of course it makes sense why the 2 doesn't have an OLED screen. Cost. The internals aren't the same price as the Switch 1. You're paying for the PC-style upgrade. They couldn't have the thing be OLED only and $600 at launch, and they probably didn't want to split production into two lines immediately.

Looks like it paid off for them too, given the sales records.

They made the Switch 2 LCD so that they can sell an OLED model in the future. It makes perfect sense form a business perspective.

I had the first model of the LCD Switch 1, a friend had the OLED.

From what I could tell, the OLED model had a battery screen, felt a little sturdier, and seemed to run better.

yes, OLED and LCD are way different technology. LCD is much older and much cheaper tech.

OLED costs a lot more. a OLED switch 2 would have been 700-800 dollars. The screen in the switch 2 is probably $50 part or less.

I have a switch 2, the LCD is good, it's just not amazing compared to an OLED, but I don't play it portable so i don't really care. I play it on my 60" OLED TV.

They could also have made it with a microLED screen that's superior to OLED, but it would have cost $1500+
