Takerufuji gets after it on the tachiai but Shishi circles and gets shoved back, but when Take comes in to reengage Shishi shoves him past and down.
Asahakuryu looks strong after the tachiai and muscles Nishikifuji around, but they end up with even grips in the center from which Nishi slowly but steadily takes Asa to the ropes and out.
Abi goes for tsuppari slaps right away but Mitakeumi slaps his arms down, taking him off balance. However Mita runs out of ring and is forced to step out and down as Abi recovers.
After Wakanosho's false start he tries slaps against Asanoyama, who does a good job parrying everything coming his way. But Waka circles and there's a scramble before he takes Asa off balance, then comes in with a couple hard smacks to the face, giving him time to grab the belt and make a drive that puts Asa over the bales. Lots of energy, really fun one.
Some good hand fighting between Chiyoshoma and Tobizaru that the Monkey comes out on top of.
After some initial shoving Wakamotoharu ends up with a solid belt grip and drives Fujiryoga out. Looks like Fuji's foot slipped as he stepped out, causing him to fall, but he didn't seem to be hurt when he got up.
Takayasu blocks Roga from getting the belt off the line. As he backs up near the bales Taka spins and when they reengage Taka goes for a big underarm throw that puts Roga on the clay. Great work by Papa this match.
Ura takes a bunch of slaps to the face from Daieisho immediately but he recovers and drives Daieisho back to the ring where he pivots to counter Ura with a throw.
Hiradoumi takes Atamifuji to the bales off the lines but can't find the strength to get the larger wrestler out. Atami responds with a big underarm throw for the win.
Aonishiki and Churanoumi fight back and forth for belt position then end up slapping at each other before Churano ends up against the ropes where Aoni walks him out.
Yoshinofuji almost pulls off an underarm belt throw against Kotozakura but the ozeki stands firm and uses his bulk to recenter and shove Yoshino out from behind with a hand on the belt.
Takanosho shoves the yokozuna back with some slaps to the face, but Hoshoryu pivots with a massive beltless throw that sends Taka flying to land hard on what looks like his tailbone.
Fujinokawa manages to get an upper position with a hand over the top as Onosato is driving him out. Ono gets slapped down just before Fuji hits the dirt himself.
Onosato 0-2 after today, maybe he wasn't ready to return yet.

I had to think about it, but ended up cheering for Takerufuji. So naturally Shishi does some inspired maneuvering and wins! It was a good bout for both of them tho.

Right at the start it looked like Takayasu was gonna lose this one, but he fought back, did that impressive spin, and brought it home.

An example of why sumotori get bulky. It woulda taken a miracle to move Atamifuji.

Hard to tell if this was injury-related. iirc Fujinokawa has a habit of winning bouts he wasn't expected to, e.g. defeating yokozuna But yeah I believe shoulder injuries are hard to come back form.
