I've been seeing a lot of new usernames but tbh I was writing them off as potential bots from the Tankie side trying to push election year propaganda.

I dont think people care enough about piefed for that sort of thing.

Yeah the whole threadiverse is the size of one medium-sized Facebook group.

You'd be wrong. ML is literally a training ground for information warfare. Nobody is seeking influence on the fediverse yet, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have value as a training ground for teaching people how to curate influence on larger platforms like reddit and Facebook.

2

And yet Hexbear exists and it is overflowing with actual bot accounts. There is no debate, here, there is an active payed and militant psyops campaign aiming to radicalize users on the Fediverse.

I am sorry, but TWO more than in March? Am I missing a few zeros there?

24

Today it's 5914, 106 more than March.

Stick around for more exciting updates. Or you could just look at the direction of the graph and get the idea.

What exactly does PieFed do? I'm just on Lemmy, does PieFed let me see more fediverse content?

18
piefed.ca

I am simplifying probably but essentially it is like Lemmy and the two are talking to each other. Source: me and you, since I am on PieFed and you are on Lemmy but you can see my comments and I can see yours.

There's also the political difference that the Lemmy devs are often labelled as Tankies, not the case with the PieFed dev(s).

29

Also, the UI. I migrated my server from Lemmy to Piefed, UI just feels more mature and I seem to require less resources.

2

I think the biggest technical differences right now are polls and combining comments from cross-posted posts. There is some back-end stuff that won't have a bearing on most users.

It adds a whole bunch of functionality that Lemmy lacks. In addition to not being run by tankies.

4chan Filter – Flags content from 4chan for review.

Why the special treatment?

Guess it's because 4chan is a racist cesspool

Not really a trait unique to 4chan. If that were the reason there'd be a Twitter filter too.

Not unique no, but 4chan is kinda famous for it, which Twitter is not. Also the amount of racism is not comparable

Eh, that's a subjective opinion. I don't remember moot ever doing any nazi salutes when he owned the site. Most of the worst stuff attributed to 4chan (GG, Qanon, etc) either got kicked off of the site or came from 4chan derivatives.

Meanwhile on Twitter you've got people casually dropping the n-word in their checkmark-boosted posts while getting literal cash payouts for their purposefully incendiary content that generates engagement.

2

I haven't visited 4chan in a decade, so good to hear that they have started to moderate. Before though, on 4chan the n-word wasn't casually dropped but every other message lol. It's not comparable. One is like the home of racism and the other has racists.

lemmy.zip

Edit: see below

It bans users for no reason, and without explanation

PieFed is software.

Many Lemmy instances also ban users, in fact its flagship instance Lemmy.ml is famous for it.

Yours is a very sensible instance, which btw also offers a PieFed equivalent in PieFed.zip.

EDIT: DISREGARD MY COMMENTS - This was in fact a bug, and seems to have been fixed with the latest update. Just checked my old account logins and they work now.

I was mainly referring to the flagship instances. I am on a smaller piefed instance as well, and have had no issues. At least with Lemmy, they would give you a reason, but in my case they acted like it was a bug. So draw from that what you will, but that has been my experience, and I am currently unable to register an account on a primary piefed instance, without being given a reason for that being the case.

PieFed is a lot newer than Lemmy and while it has some more features (also some less features, depending on the feature), it overall lacks polish in comparison.

I'm glad they were able to get you sorted out:-).

3

the biggest thing is it aggregates lemmy and dedupes posts and aggregates other reddit like fediverse content thus its just all around better than lemmy imo -- people can still use lemmy you're just getting more high quality content with piefed

2

It's a different frontend for the same content. Also it has additional features. Same thing with a better interface IMHO.

1

On Lemmy there are still many reddit addicts, on the other hand, piefed users are detoxt ex redditors 😂

I remember it like it was only yesterday, when piefed was having some techn8cal difficulties for a few hours, and the tankies were out in force, yub-nubbing like Ewoks after the second Death Star blew up.

2

Great, but still wondering about the features, while using Voyager App. What is the best smartphone app to experience piefed ?

Connect is the only mobile app AFAIK that supports the full 1.7 API Spec including Follows.

I'm using Blorp right now. The experience is good for everyday use, but it doesn't have all the features such as keyword filtering (in the settings), combining cross-posts (view the comments from all comms, it doesn't do that in my experience, at least not as clearly if it does. It does show you where the post has been cross-posted to though), and a few other things. I'd say try it out (or any other compatible app, though I don't know of any others ATM), though, if you find yourself wanting access to any of the features not in the app, the most obvious & best thing would be the website.

E: I see you're using piefed.social on voyager, so the second part of my comment doesn't apply. I don't know how Blorp compares to Voyager, so can't help in that regard.

E2: Blorp does have keyword filtering, just doesn't sync with piefed

Is this just piefed.social, or does it include the instance I'm on as well?
