Upgrading the lighting to using modern ray tracing tech. Lighting was a key part of the game design since the original trailer. It never managed to live up to the original ambitions.
I’ve seen lots of gameplay with the lighting mod for DS2. I still like the original lightning quite a bit more.
Of course DS2 couldn’t live up to it‘s expectations. Especially with the publisher forcing them to shift the target from the PS4 console generation to the PS3 generation.
Personally I like the lighting in DS2 a decent bit more than the lighting in DS3. DS3 looks a bit like Bloodborne but lit up. They did a better job with the lighting before in Bloodborne and then latter in Elden Ring. Still I like how DS2 implements it’s lightning; it creates a very moody effect.
I'm actually replaying right now doing str/pyro build and it was smooth sailing but for the first time ever the lothric princes are kicking my ass, not really sure why
edit: got them with the dragonslayer greataxe. Also thought it was a lock-on fight but it was definitely a no lock-on fight
Midir is just such a war of attrition. I think ive only done it twice because it's just so arduous that I skip it or try twice and say screw it on most playthroughs
First souls game I played and almost on release as well. Trying to get that high on every new release but Lazy Miyazaki sadly won't push out games like Ubisoft

So much has happened in the last 10 years, I'm actually surprised DS3 isn't even older.
I get even more confused because it feels like DS2 was released ages before DS3, but they were only 2 years apart.

DS2 needs a remaster where they fix the hitboxes and lighting.

The lighting mod isn’t going to be as good as what Fromsoft would do if they could get another crack at it.
I really want a new game with the classic slow methodical gameplay and strong lighting design integrated with the gameplay.

The princes are THAT boss for me. I can beat midir twice before i beat the princes.
