Respect as always goes to the almighty Banana-Ganesha
Another guest post from ![email protected] as I slowly make my way through the archives...
This is a 25-foot statue of the Hindu deity Ganesha, meticulously crafted entirely out of green bananas. Created by the Natraj Club in Sambalpur, Odisha, India, the sculpture utilized over 5 tons of bananas. The banana sculpture is designed to be eco-friendly, with the fruit distributed to devotees and the needy after the festival concludes. --courtesy of the Evil Empire
And remember-- next time you take a photo of something to be shared on the internet, place a Banana-Ganesha next to it to help add scale. :D

I want a followup picture where it becomes ripe, and turns into a spotty brown molasse
No, they're responsible banana owners, they'll make a 50-ton Ganesha banana bread when they become too ripe
Thank you for reminding me to make banana bread today. The bananas will be forever grateful.
Impressive
Absolutely love this. Ganesha is one of my favorite Hindu deities. I've actually got a Ganapati tattoo
When I was a rowdy boy (lol), I used to love playing around with a certain Indian tattooing method. "Hennah," I think it was..?
It was so, so cool to be able to make an interesting tattoo every week (and yeah of course, sometimes they were disasters), but some of them I really wish could have been permanent. Anyway the Ganapati tattoos I'm seeing online look pretty boss!
Note: I don't mean to downplay the religious / spiritual / belief-centric aspects of Hindi deities and iconography whatsoever. To me, there is much beauty and things to admire about the Indus sub-continent, the peoples, customs, Hinduism, Jainism, et cet.
I've always wanted to try out henna, but I don't have the talent to actually do them on myself. Would be a very cool way of testing out a tattoo before commiting!
Here's my Ganapati tattoo. It's just above my knee, so it's longer or shorter depending on if I straighten my like. My baby nephew loves to play "big Ganesha, little Ganesha" by making me slow motion kick my leg out so he can watch Ganesha flex haha

I bow to the god within thee.
"May your bananas never be bruised and peel cleanly."
How many small boulders is it to a Banana Gesha?
"We poor unfortunates may never know."

This statue menaces with spikes of banana.
