I'll bet if footage of the sabotage mission and explosions was posted to PornHub, it would get views.

PornHub has a lot of quality, non-pronography on it.

(If one needs to prepare for a medical procedure, and needs details not euphemisms, PornHub is the place to go.)

Meanwhile, plenty of others pointed a finger at the CIA.

Here on Lemmy there are at least three instances of those "others".

The Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines were sabotaged at depths of 70–110 meters Most sources specify the explosions occurred at 70–80 meters depth, with some sections of the pipelines lying as deep as 110 meters.

Can you reach these depths with normal scuba gear? No. Recreational scuba diving is typically limited to 40 meters maximum with standard equipment and training. Depths of 70–110 meters require technical diving with mixed gases (e.g., trimix), specialized gear, and advanced certification—far beyond normal recreational scuba capabilities.

Shooting porn at deeper than 40meters is no cover story anyone would believe. This entire article reeks of cia

You don't need advanced certification, you need the knowledge that would've granted you the certification. I doubt anyone was carrying any paperwork attesting to their actual skill levels.

I'm not a scuba diver, but could you simply mislabel your tanks as containing regular gases, but put the advanced stuff in instead? Would someone inspecting their gear sample the contents?

Honestly none of these hurdles seem particularly insurmountable.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Ukraine didn't have people on hand who could have developed the training for this operation. The Black Sea is relatively deep.

If this is government and not personal than you can put whatever label you want on it. However the danger is someone will believe the label and misfill your air and you may not realize this until too late.

Hmmmmm, who to believe, awarded journalist and public German police records, or a random guy on the Internet who's posts mostly read like copy/paste LLM slop.

However will I decide?

For gods sake, don't do your own research.

Says the guy who clearly didn't even look at the article where they talk about the depth in the third paragraph and how they realize now how bad that cover story actually was. Let alone whatever they talk about in the book.

Seymoure Hersh got it right from the start, cia is doing what they can to water out the truth with these silly stories. More "options" so it's harder to find out the truth for an untrained person.

They even say right in the article the Ukrainians got sign off from the CIA before the mission. There's no hidden shadow CIA agenda. It's right there in the open.

You talk about people not being able to find a truth while guzzling their slop machine output. Mydude. Lol. I even set you up for an easy win but knew you'd take the bait. Put down the slop machine and go touch grass. Please. And learn to think again instead of just slopped conspiracies.

Edit to add a quote from a YouTuber, Milo aka miniminuteman: "You gotta stop inventing shadow conspiracy governments to be mad at. The real government is right there and doing plenty worth getting mad at. You don't need to make up more when they're right there"

15

Reading the article, it doesn't read that the CIA said yes to conduct the operation, they just didn't say no (which would likely mean exposing the operation before it happened).

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false" - EX CIA Director William Casey

-3

(The origin of the quote is suspicious, the evidence he said it is very slim but we'll operate on the assumption he did).

Wow, coming back hours later to drop a second comment because you got no reply on the first with an out of context quote from a single director only a month after he was sworn in as director, back in 19 flipping 81. Just ignoring the whole, I dunno, Iran-Contra work he had just been involved in starting and wanted to make sure stayed buried that could motivate that quote? The Iran-Contra affair they really didn't want exposed at all but was exposed by, I dunno, award winning journalists like the one that you're now trying to discredit? The quote that makes more sense in all of his actions to refer to American beliefs about certain CIA actions and not literally everything? The quote often trotted out with zero of this extra context by conspiracy theorists who have gone off the deep end and considered world over as a sign of someone to ignore?

Oh I'm sorry, was I not supposed to do my own research?

I refer back to my original quote from Milo: "You gotta stop inventing shadow conspiracy governments to be mad at. The real government is right there and doing plenty worth getting mad at. You don’t need to make up more when they’re right there”

Like seriously. You can just be mad at them for Iran-Contra or MKUltra or that former agent who stole $40 million in gold bars. You don't have to make up some shadowy government bs. The real government is right there and deserves the ire.

That's the whole point. Cia feeds ten or twenty different stories so the real one is never agreed upon. That's what this story is, it's just some trash story to confuse the plebs.

It's completely believable. The name of the porn? "Deep Penetration"

15

The article even says that they abandoned trying to say they were shooting a porn flick. Their excuse was they were exploring shipwrecks which would have checked out better with the equipment they had.

You didn't read the article, huh? It's all laid out there, from the challenges of those deep dives to the possible CIA involvement to the shaky cover story.

specialized gear, and advanced certification—far beyond normal recreational scuba capabilities.

In the article, they even go in to detail that even Navy divers rarely dive that deep so:

To assemble the Diameter team, however, the men had to reach outside their usual battle-hardened ranks, and recruit specialist, civilian deep-sea divers – the only people capable of going down to Nord Stream’s 80-metre depth. Luckily, Ukraine has a large and patriotic Black Sea diving fraternity, from which volunteers were picked amid great secrecy.

This entire article reeks of cia

So much so they hint at their own involvement? Classic cover story. "We distract from our involvement by hinting that we might've been involved!"

Pancevski hints that the CIA might have given the Ukrainians tacit encouragement. “Not all senior CIA officials who got wind of Operation Diameter were outraged,” he writes. “They weren’t necessarily averse to someone putting the pipeline permanently out of commission.”

Shooting porn at deeper than 40meters is no cover story anyone would believe.

That was an idea that was floated earlier in the planning phase of the operation.

They then travelled to Germany, where they hired a boat from a marina on the coast and posed as leisure divers exploring shipwrecks. (The Colonel’s suggested porn-film alibi had, at this late stage, been abandoned.)

4

See here is the thing, they would have been at the surface when stopped. They would also have had explosives on board, the cover story was lnt going to hold up under a lot of scrutiny, it was meant for the coastguard.

They could have had labelled the mixed gases as standard tanks or shown the additional equipment as part of the dive centre boat. Coastguards also dont have to check dive certifications, it is not illegal to dive without them.

If I was hiring for an underwater porn I would hire people with a good level of skill and comfort in open water who want to show their bits.
