“If you have ever petted a shark in an aquarium touch tank,” said Erin Dillon, who began this study as an intern at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) and is now wrapping up her doctoral work at the University of California, Santa Barbara, “denticles are the reason why shark skin is rough like sandpaper if you rub it in one direction yet smooth in the other direction. Sharks are essentially covered by millions of tiny teeth.”
oh yeah, people aren't allowed preferences ig... 🙄 I'm not a man but I don't like body hair on myself or partners, and like, that's just something that makes me more comfortable
Sharks are smooth.
In one direction. They're sharp against the grain, but it's like the finest polishing sand papers. Definitely can't grate cheese.
I ate a Japanese restaurant once and they grated the wasabi on a shark skin paddle.
You ate a whole restaurant????
Hey, don't yuck someone else's yum!
That's cool AF.
Say it with me: Every shark is completely smooth no matter what angle you're touching it from
No. I don’t think I will.

Yeah I'm gonna dip my hands in the ocean and touch some smooth sharks
Nah that must’ve been a weird one, all the sharks I’ve pet have been totally smooth each way
Nice!
I came to say this. Both ways, totally smooth
I'm pretty sure that sharks are smooth, both directions
Are dolphins smooth?
