Then your mushrooms were full of water or sogged up too much. Maybe from the sauce

They're not my mushrooms. Mine would be cooked and added as a topping halfway through cooking. I'm not vegan though.

You should try precooking the mushrooms a bit, I find they work better on pizza that way as they can release a lot that water content so it doesn't get on your pizza and prevent browning, they don't take up so much room on the pizza that way too so you can get a nice heterogeneous mix of exposed cheese layer and toppings during the bake. I like to give them a little fry with garlic and butter but you could use olive oil. Gotta pull them off the heat just before they get nice and golden otherwise they burn in the oven.

The cheese isn't melted; the mushrooms are still raw; and that's sauce spilling over the crust, not the actual crust itself.

I had to double-check.

Thanks, now I'm stuck with the The Wiggles "Fruit Salad" song in my head.

There's this Italian restaurant near me, everything time I went I asked for a marinara pizza with eggplant, mushrooms, onions, and olives on top. Tastier stuff I have ever eaten. Eggplant is the secret ingredient, and yes, it works great on pizza.

interesting .. I never would have thought to put all the cheese under the toppings. Do you not find the toppings are more likely to fall off?

I mean, I get adding some extra cheese on top of the toppings ... but never in my live have I heard of putting the toppings first.

I like to add pepperoni to my frozen pizzas, then I sprinkle some shaved parmesan/asiago mix on top.
