I have to disagree with the author in a small, but essential detail: blogs have their own interface, independent from RSS, So I don't need the app to view Bob's stuff on his blog. As a PDS don't have a interface, the app/instance/interface is the only way to view Bob's stuff. RSS is a add-on over a working thing.
But an app view is not a add-on, but a essential piece. BlueSky fixed a lot of the problems that made hosting relays and appviws hard and expensive, but to this day, it's not a option for selfhosting a single user Atmosphere presence, equivalent to a blog, while GoToSocial or SNAC2 offer exactly this.
I think the article is a bit too close to clickbait, for my taste at least, but I found it it interesting nevertheless so sharing here. A Social Filesystem by the same author is a lot better if you're looking for an accessible introduction to AT Protocol.
I think we should all be using PDS for identity so no one is giving any info to instances. No one can kill your account but your identity provider. Sure they know a DID, but they don’t know your email. Admins are bastards who share email across instances. Namely World, discuss.social and SJW

He's just gonna handwave the fact that bluesky gets to censor stuff before he sees it?

How decentralized is Bluesky really? and Re: Re: Bluesky and Decentralization (both by Christine Lemmer-Webber) are the two classics if you're looking to compare & contrast ActivityPub (most famously known for "Mastodon") and AT Protocol ("Bluesky").
