Which way is the picture supposed to represent? Because in my mind the way shown is upside down

That's the right way up direction. The grub screw is at the bottom in the correct orientation.

We have two water faucets that have handles that are 90° off. I really want to fix them, but I'm terrified of plumbing. 😞

Depending on the design, you may just have to partially unscrew a set screw, put them in the right position and tighten the set screw.

My house is full of little things that are just slightly wrong, the previous owner clearly was not bothered by stuff like that. There's nothing wrong with that, it's not like any of it is actually problematic, but it means there's this big list of tiny jobs I need to get to, eventually...

If that's an example, I suspect that it's intentional that it can be installed either way.

That might be true but when installed in this orientation the grub screw is hidden which makes me feel like this is the preferred orientation. Also this is the only door on the house that has it in this orientation where this knob is used. There about 4 doors that all use the same knob.

I swapped one of ours because Sammy the cat worked out how lever handles worked. So the door opens by lifting the handle

Guess what he's now worked out what to do...

We had upside down handles because of a particularly smart cat as a kid. Then he figured out how to push it up with his head lol.

My Sammy rang the front door bell to be let in when I was a kid. One night around midnight my dad opened the door nude to let Sammy in and some dude was standing there instead.

When I moved into my house last year, the garage entry door handles were reversed so the key hole was inside the house and the little bit you twist to lock and unlock the door was in the garage.

You reached the end

Some of the door knobs in the house were installed upside down. I fixed them. | Spyke
