Elephants are stereotypes as being patient and wise. How the fuck did the Republicans end up with it as their mascot? Their mascot should be a freshly kicked hive of hornets.
Patient for sure. They are in this position partly because of their aptitude for playing the long game.
Wise...idk. There's definitely some incredibly intelligent people strategizing the party, but not in office. Those people may as well be paid actors.
Intelligent, at least, in understanding and exploiting social behaviors. You don't have to be ethical or moralistic to be smart. Chaotic Evil wisdom. Hitler was like this. Voldermort level. Terrible, yes....but great.
It's the party of con men, so of course they'd pick something that lies about their true nature in every possible way.
The elephant was sort of picked for them, it comes from a series of old (1890s I think? I'd have to go take them again) political cartoons depicting the party machine as an enormous animal that couldn't be managed easily.
It was a little bit like how the Donkey became the symbol of the Democrats, from people calling Andrew Jackson a Jackass.

I find it funny the mascots of the parties. A Elephant if it could think of politics, I doubt Republicans would be who they'd vote for given a choice.
