Mystery suds
Hello everyone, I was in my basement a little while ago and saw this pile of soap suds coming out of what I believe is the sump?
This hasn't happened before, but i think it's relevant that we've got a baby so I'm washing a fuckton of bottles and using a fuckton of soap. Could that cause this?
If it's not that, how concerned should I be? Thanks in advance
That looks like your floor drain.
The white pipe is the condensate drain from your A/C unit.
Where does that off-white/tan pipe go?
If I had to guess, the washing machine or sink drains into the same set of pipes.
The tan one appears to come from the furnace
I thought that was a shadow until I saw the three labels instead of two lol
Blocked drain maybe
Congratulations on finding the suds zone. A lack of proper sizing and distance from other drains (that floor drain) from those drains taking on heavy suds, washer machines, dish washers, kitchen sink ect. More of an engineer problem in theory but quickly discovered with poor plumbing installations. Youre pretty much cooked at this point. You could install a trap seal into that floor drain but will likely find back ups from the drains using that floor drain. It actually looks like there is one already installed. So may not do much for the suds.... You could reinvent that floor drain to a stand pipe but would need to install a pump for those existing mechanical drains. Tuff situation for sure. Maybe try a different soap product and to be thorough you could get the drains snaked/ jetted to ensure they are fully open
