WALMART FLY FISHING CHALLENGE!! || Fly Fishing for Beginners (Brown Trout)

WALMART TROUT FISHING CHALLENGE - FLY FISHING EDITION!!

If you want me to send you the rod used in this video just leave a comment below saying you'd like to have the rod and I'll randomly choose someone next Friday.

I know a lot of content creators have done Walmart challenges in the past, but not many have done a Walmart Challenge with a fly rod! In this video I went to Walmart, bought some cheap equipment, and went fishing in a highly pressured body of water to prove a point: Fly Fishing Doesn't Have to Be Elite!! I spent less than $100 and got more than enough equipment to catch some beautiful wild brown trout.

The purpose of this video is to show someone new to fly fishing an easy way to get started (Fly Fishing 101). If you're an experienced fly fisherman then maybe this video isn't for you... or maybe you'll watch it and remember what it was like to get started into the sport that we love so much. I think nowadays people get so caught up in the gear that they forget the reason they fly fished in the first place.

I don't understand why this is special. This is how every fly fisherman should start out. Get something cheap to learn on and to make sure that you love it. I started with a Walmart combo that was, at the time, less than $50 (this was some 20 years ago). I fished that rod nearly daily in the summer, and still more often than most in the upper Midwest winters. After two years of that abuse, the ferrules started failing. I then was more than certain that it was something I loved and I bought a Sage rod. I haven't upgraded since (but I do now own a Cabela's brand 9wt that I bought for steelheading on the Pacific Coast -- it's a fast rod and throws the line just fine, no complaints). And the Sage lifetime warranty has been called in once when I snapped the rod while hauling in a pig of a cutthroat in Wyoming. I still landed that fish with a broken rod, btw.

Anyhow -- nothing wrong with a Walmart combo to learn the sport. Nothing wrong with it at all.

Kudos to this influencer for giving away the rod when he's done with it.
