It's also a solvent that'll break down lubricant. Use it to get the old gunk out, but you gotta add new grease or oil after.

If you want to be pedantic, WD-40 is a brand that also sells lubricant. And they advertise their general use WD-40 as several things including a lubricant. It's not a good long term lubricant compared to oil or grease, but it is a lubricant.

I suppose, I was thinking more of the result than the material. But I guess that also depends on what you use it on. I'm not sure, if you used it on a pile of food, would the food fuse together or splash out everywhere.
