Rolling Stone - The 100 Greatest Punk Albums of All Time

I have so much to say about this.
I think NOFX ‘Punk in Drublic’ and Dead Kennedys ‘Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables’ are both top 20 at least.
Also, feels like this is a lot of early/proto-punk bias. And on the opposite end, what the hell is Turnstile doing that high?
If you are going to put Nirvana on this list at least use Bleach and not Nevermind.
And replace Blink-182 ‘Dude Ranch’, with The Offspring ‘Smash’

Okay, enough of my bitching, here is the list.

They idea of a list of "best punk" is so contradictory, so oxymoronic... I can't believe anyone involved got past 3 albums before abandoning the idea. It's an anathema. Counter to the counterculture. Everyone involved should hang their heads in shame, if they have any remaining self respect.

Do I love many of these albums? Of course. Would I ever try to rank them? Hell no! Even certain comparisons are ludicrous. How do you compare Misfits to Dropkick Murphys? Nevermind bringing in Devo, MC5. Like, wtf. Get outta here.

Not that any of these aren't punk, of course they are. They're just incomparable. Too try is to fail; you've misunderstood the assignment.

Sorry, I'm a little mad at this

Yeah, it's ragebait. It's slop, even tho I think it was written by humans. In a way it was written by a machine: Rolling Stone decides it needs to remain relevant, so it gets a bunch of humans to write this article to drive engagement.

Really the only way to make an list like this is to ask a bunch of people "which punk music has had the most effect on your life?" and then print their individual stories.

So many good bands in this list, I need to go add these to my mp3 player!

I agree with you (OP). I think maybe remove Nirvana or Devo to add Offspring, but I’d keep Blink182 Dude Ranch because it’s a good album and was one of my earliest purchased punk cds. I still dig Cheshire Cat a bit more though.

I am glad to see Green Day on the list. Dookie came out when I was in 4th grade and it was my intro to everything punk rock, although I bought 1,039/Smooth in ‘94 as my first real cd that wasn’t my parents music. They have been my favorite band ever since.

Hmmm yeah, I have ... opinions.

DK at #68 and Stiff Little Fingers at #64 - we can't be friends now.

Minor Threat should be in the top ten but for Out Of Step, not a comp; drop X-Ray Spex down to make room. Get rid of the Wanna Buy a Bridge comp too while you're at it.

Happy they're taking a broad swath here, with the Replacements, Devo, Pogues -- but Paramore, really?

No Slaughter and the Dogs - Do it Do Style?

Everyone knows Brain Drain is the best Ramones album.

Devo makes it on to a punk list but not Motörhead?

Pfffft. This list sucks.

4

This is a very weird list. Only 1 NOFX album, no MxPx albums, and Paramore a pop band is on the list.

4

Shit list with a lot of 70s poeser shit bands.

Shit idea. Not Punk. And just this top-x idea is not Punk at all...

You reached the end
