this title is an out right lie. to be fair, the title doesnt actually say the backlash is because of ai but it heavily hints at it. which is not true.

its surprising because the actual text of the article goes into the actual reasons why the initiative is on hold. (not blocked). including CUDA was a bug issue.

@terabyterex @cm0002 Yeh, two things I'm starting to really dislike about the #fediverse are epitomised in this post: the need for click-bait to get attention and the disconnect (double in this case) between the original source (a news site) and the appearance of matter in a generic information browser. This is almost as bad as embedded advertising.

This doesn't need a software solution. One of the reasons why I like link aggregators (which lemmy is) is because posters can de editorialize post titles, removing clickbait.

Instead of "Linus SLAMS psycho for DARING to suggest C++ in the kernel" the title can be replaced with "Linus explains why C++ is not suitable for the Linux kernel" when they post it.

But people don't really do this, and people get mad at people who do this sometimes.

Of course, then people can inject bias in their titles. But I would rather not have clickbait.

This has a very similar challenge to the one that Hacker News has, where leaving the title unredacted is the general rule. See:

https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html

If you do not stick to those rules, your submission will be downvoted and flagged really quick and your post becomes "dead", invisible by default (it is still viewable by setting "showdead" flag in profile settings).

Because of this voting mechanism moderator intervention is most often not needed.

Whatever people think of HN, as a link aggregator site it has many interesting aspects, being tuned over the years to surface content on the front page based on relevance to its developer audience.

HN I think still runs on a super old single server, and has been basically moderated by one person for all these years (though there are 2 mods AFAIK).

It's not though? One of the board members literally reversed their vote citing the community response as the primary reason. The community backlash on the inclusion of AI was pretty negative from what I read, and apparently a lot of that feedback made it back to the board. Not that that response is surprising at all, people bate AI.

The project is literally called "Fedora Al Developer Desktop Initiative". It was blocked due to heavy community backlash. The title is not sensationalized. It's the exact article title from the webpage.

  1. i didnt say the post title was altered, i said the article title is sensationalized

  2. it doesnt matter what the project was called. if you read the articke, it was postponed due to sone issues with including nvidia drivers.
